EX OPEN FIELD

1.SITUATION

2137 RCACC Calgary Highlanders will participate in Ex Open Field, an orienteering event at Confederation and Nose Hill Parks on 6 Mar 04.

2. MISSION

To introduce to the Green Star Level, the basics of map and compass. For the Red Stars, to

review Green Star map and compass. For the Silver and the Gold Stars, to test their current knowledge of using the map and land features to navigate from one point to the next.

3.EXECUTION

  1. General. This activity will be conducted in one phase:

(1) Phase One:-Arrive at Confederation and Nose Hill Parks

-Participate in Ex Open Field

-Debrief and dismissal

  1. Groupings and Taskings.

(1) Groupings:

(a) Cadets will be grouped by Star Levels. Green Stars will participate in the Ex Saturday morning. Red Stars will participate in the Ex Saturday afternoon. Silver and Gold Stars will participate in the Ex for the whole day.

(2) Taskings:

(2) Routes:

Confederation Park: 3204 Collingwood Dr. N.W

Nose Hill Park: Bordered southby John Laurie Blvd. N.W., bordered west by Shaganappi Tr. NW, bordered east by 14 St. N.W., and bordered north by the community of MacEwan.

4.SERVICE AND SUPPORT

a.Rations and Feeding. Green Stars to eat breakfast prior to arriving at the park. Red

Stars, Silver, and Gold Stars to eat lunch prior to arriving at the park. Snacks will be permitted.

b.Transport. Travel to and from Confederation and Nose Hill Park via parental vehicles.

d.Dress and Equipment. All CIC officers will wear combat clothing. Civilian Instructors and cadets may wear approved combat clothing with CI or Cadet identifier.

e.Emergency Procedures. All incidents will be reported to the First Aid officer. All

minor injuries will be treated and observed. Major injuries will be treated as soon

as possible, and the casualty will be taken to the nearest medical facility:

f.Smoking. Smoking is not permitted for the duration of the exercise.
