DR® Power Introduces New DuraBlades™ for Trimmer/Mower

New DuraBlades™ Attachment Attachment Blade Addss Brush Cutting Capabilityies toto the DR® Trimmer/Mower

Vergennes, VT (June DATE12,, 2012) –Today DR® Power Equipment introduced today a new trimmer blade DuraBlades™ attachment for its best-selling DR® Trimmer/Mower. The new DR DuraBlades™ allow customers to quickly swap their trimming cord for a set of blades that cut through heavier vegetation too thick or “whippy” for cutting cord.

The DR Trimmer/Mower is the original “string trimmer on wheels”, invented by the company over 25 years ago, and still leads the category in sales and reputation for quality. With the addition of DuraBlades™, the versatility of this multi-purpose machine is even greater.

After listening to customer requests for tougher cutting blades, DR® Power’s product development team spent months developing and testing different grass trimmer blades. The finished product is a lightweight, innovative set of string trimmer blades engineered to be long lasting and easy to use.

The new grass cutting blades feature a tough, metal cutting edge embedded in a lightweight, space-age polymer with a tough, metal edge that slices through woodlight brush and brambles up to 3/8"” thick. To provide high performance cutting power with minimal extra weight, the DuraBlades™ utilize the high speed and centrifugal force supplied by the DR® Trimmer/Mower’s powerful engine. As a result, even with the trimmer blade attachment the DR ®Trimmer/Mower is as light as ever for easy maneuverability.

“We are really excited about this latest innovation to our string trimmer line-up,” DR® Power Product Innovation Manager Michael Moriarty said. “As tough and versatile as our cutting cords are, DR® customers have asked for an alternative that is even longer-lasting in the harshest of mowing conditions. Well this is it!”

For many years the company has offered its Beaver Blade attachment—a circular chainsaw blade—that allows users to cut down stands of saplings, shrubs, and small trees up to 3" thick. But using the Beaver Blade means suspending normal trimming and mowing while in cutting mode. DuraBlades™ pick up where cutting cord leaves off but where the Beaver Blade would be overkill. And with DuraBlades™, normal trimming and mowing proceeds, with extra cutting ability.

“We are really excited about this latest innovation to our Trimmer/Mower line-up,” DR® Power Product Innovation Manager Michael Moriarty said. “As tough and versatile as our cutting cords are, DR® customers have asked for an alternative that is even longer-lasting in the harshest of mowing conditions. Well this is it!”

Customers can make the switch between cutting cord and DuraBlades™ in less than a minute, without tools. To install, the customer simply unscrews the Mow-Ball™ (the rounded bottom of the cutting head that rides along the ground) and replaces it with a new Mow-Ball™ that the DuraBlades™ are mounted on.

The DR® Trimmer/Mower, now entering its 25th year of production, has a reputation among home and property owners as the single-machine solution to property maintenance. With the addition of DuraBlades™, the DR® Trimmer/Mower is the most comprehensive trimming and mowing machine on the market. With three total cutting systems available, rather than invest in a separate machine to cut different types of vegetation, the customer need only purchase additional attachments as needed.

The DR

The brand new DuraBlades™ provide a quick-change solution for chopping down brambles and hardwood brush up to 3/8” thick. The DuraBlades™ can be exchanged in less than a minute, without tools, for the nylon cutting cords. To install, the customer simply unscrews the Mow-Ball™ and replaces it with a new Mow-Ball™/DuraBlade™ holder. With the standard nylon cutting cords, the DR® Trimmer/Mower handles waist-high grass and weeds. For woody brush and saplings up to 3” thick, a Beaver Blade cutting attachment is available.
