Job Description

The International Journal of Art & Design Education (iJADE) provides an international forum for independently peer-reviewed research and scholarship in the field of art and design education at all levels. iJADE is published in partnership between Wiley-Blackwell and the National Society for Education in Art and Design.

iJADE reflects and welcomes a wide range of theoretical and practical approaches especially those that debate the social and cultural values which inform art, craft and design education, offer illustrated case studies, analyse and exemplify specific art, craft and design practices in all sectors of education, and that critically engage with the past, present and future of art, craft and design education.

Depending on circumstance the Principal Editor may be supported by a small team of Assistant Editors. The contract will run for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of a second three year term, with a twelve month notice period for both parties. The Editor/ Editorial Team will receive an annual honorarium, increasing annually by the consumer price index, confirmed in October of the preceding year.

·  With the assistance of the Editorial Board the Editor will select and appoint people to take on specific tasks (special issues, conferences, book reviews, abstracts). The Editor will need to encourage them to and aid them in producing their relevant material.

·  Together with the Editorial Board, the Editor will need to seek contributions to the Journal and to ensure that there is sufficient material of a high enough standard to establish and maintain the international status of the Journal. All papers submitted to the Journal need to be subject to an anonymous peer review process and the Editor is responsible for organising this in a professional and prompt way.

·  At the end of each year the Society/Wiley-Blackwell will require a report from the Editor on the number of articles submitted, accepted, rejected and published, the country of origin of the submitted and accepted articles, manuscript handling times, the mean length of articles of various types and the subject coverage of the Journal.

·  The Editor has final responsibility for the contents of the Journal. The Editor will be responsible for ensuring that the contents of each edition of the Journal are delivered to Wiley-Blackwell according to the publication schedule (provided annually by the Wiley-Blackwell production editor). Details of the form in which Wiley-Blackwell need copy etc will be supplied on appointment and during the handover process. The Editors are responsible for liaison with the publishers, Wiley-Blackwell, but NSEAD must also be consulted about any major decisions.

It is expected that the Editor will lead the Editorial Board in shaping a vision for iJADE and will be instrumental in the process of planning the future development of the Journal in a number of ways, to include an annual conference.
