DRAFT INTERVENTION BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA

At the 32th Session of the Human Rights Council

Panel on the Promotion and Protection of the Right to Development:

30th Anniversary

Mr. Chairman,

My delegation thanksall panelists for their comprehensive presentation. Indonesia aligns itself to the statement made by LMG.

Indonesia’s advocacy of the right to development goes back several decade and we have always attached great importance to seeing it established on a par with other fundamental rights.

We fully concur with the view that it is pertinent to place the right to development at the heart of development policies and programs in developing countries as well as to internalize it among marginalized segments of society in developed countries.

Mr. Chairman,

The adoption of Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement brought new hope for sustainable development and sustenance of mankind.

Indonesia continues its active contribution in the process leading to the adoption of the SDGs as well as strong commitment to impelement it.

Drawing from MDGs implementation, Indonesia has mainstreamed the Post-2015 Development Agenda into our national development planning.

In this respect, Indonesia has inter alia reduced public spending on fuel subsidy and enhance budget allocation for social development programs, such as Ïndonesia Health Card” and “Indonesia Smart Card”, to give poor households better access to healthcare and education.

Mr. Chairman,

As stated in its Goal No. 17, the SDGs can only be materialized with commitment from each country at all level to global partnership and cooperation. We conceive the nature of different economic sizes and levels of development between countries, but we believe that in this complex and interlinked world, a successful global development agenda in only possible through cooperation and partnership between and within countries. Such partnership and cooperation will beneficial to close the gap on global welfare and eventually will spur the effective implementation on the right to development.

Mr. Chairman,

Indonesia stands ready to work together in ensuring that the fulfillment of the right of development and SDGs will not merely be a pipe dream, but a reality for all.

I thank you.
