Christ The Healer

Study Guide – Week 2

Opening thoughts

  • Until the person seeking heling is sure from God’s Word that it is God’s will to heal them, they are trying to reap a harvest where there is no seed planted.
  • Seed is powerless until it is planted. Many, instead of saying” pray for me” should first say, “Teach me God’s Word so that I can intelligently cooperate for my recovery.”
  • The Word of God cannot be health to either soul or bod before it is heard, received, and attended to.
  • Instead of having your eyes on your symptoms and being occupied with them, let God’s Word not depart from your eyes (Joshua 1)
  • Just as the only way a seed can do its work is by being kept in the ground, so the only way that God’s Word (the imperishable seed) can “effectually work in us” is by it being kept “in the midst of our hearts”
  • There are 3 essential things regarding the seed of God’s Word:
  1. There must be the attentive ear. ….(hearing)
  2. There must be the steadfast look. …. (seeing)
  3. There must be the enshrining heart. (soil)
  • Any man or woman can get rid of his or her doubts by looking steadfastly and only at the evidence that God has given for our faith.
  1. Why Healing Is For Now And It Is For All
  1. God’s original creation
  • Genesis 1:26, 27, and 31
  • God made his man the way He wanted him. He was perfect in every way. He was made in God’s image, spirit soul and body
  • There was not a day in which God created sickness or disease. God only made that which was good---VERY good.
  • When Adam and Eve were created knew no sickness, disease, or pain.
  • There has to be spiritual death (separation from God) before there can be sickness and disease.
  • Sickness is an abomination to God
  • Romans 5:12
  1. God’s will in Heaven
  2. God’s will NEVER changes
  3. Revelation 21:4
  4. Revelation 22:1-3
  5. Matthew 6:9-10
  6. If it’s God’s will for you to be sick down here on earth, then in Heaven you’ll be really sick because there’s no hindrance to His will.
  7. If it is God’s will for you to be sick then stop going against His will. Stop taking that medicine that the doctors prescribe you. Obey God and be sick.
  8. Because sickness and disease are the work of the devil
  • Job 2:7
  • Psalm 41:8
  • Luke 13:11-16
  • Acts 10:38
  • Hebrews 2:14-15
  • John 10:10
  • 1 John 3:6
  • Jesus came to destroy Satan’s works
  • ALL sickness and disease is a work of our enemy, Satan
  • Matthew 12:24-29
  • Galatians 2:18
  • Luke 9:56
  • Jesus is NOT the oppressor and giver of sickness

  • Ephesians 5:25
  • 1 Corinthians 6:15
  • Psalm 45:11
  • Psalm 50:2
  • Ephesians 5:28-30
  • The wife’s condition is the reflection of the man. We are the reflection of our bridegroom
  1. Because of the healing promises of the Word
  • James 5:15
  • 1 Peter 2:24
  • Isaiah 53:4-5

  • God wants you healed and He wants you healed NOW!
  1. Healing is the Children’s bread
  • Matthew 15:21-28
  • There is a big connection between humility and faith (also healing)
  • 2 Characteristics of great faith
  • Humility
  • Persistence
  • Sometimes people want healing but they don’t want God and what’s involved.
  • There are a lot more important things than healing. God doesn’t just want you healed, He wants YOU! And He doesn’t want you to want healing, but to want HIM and ALL of HIM!
  • You have to approach Jesus from your heart and be genuine. Faith is of the heart. It’s not mechanical.
  1. He’s the good shepherd
  • Psalm 23:2
  • Ezekiel 34:1-10
  • Jesus Himself is the Great Shepherd
  • Part of the responsibility of the pastor/minister, is getting people healed.
  • How can we get people saved when we are sick and poor?
  • God only gets glory when we are well and prospering
  • We need to be so blessed people will ask why
  • Don’t be rebellious sheep. Sheep follow their shepherd closely
  1. The love and compassion of the Lord
  • Matthew 14:14
  • Matthew 20:29-34
  • Mark 1:40-45
  • Philippians 2:26-27

  • Psalm 103:1-5
  • Psalm 68:19
  • There are mercies and benefits. God wants you loaded with blessings!
  • Psalm 145:8-9
  • If you always did everything right you wouldn’t need mercy, you could get by on justice. We need MERCY!
  1. We’ve been given authority over sickness and disease
  • If we have authority, then sickness and disease shouldn’t be ruling over us.
  • Matthew 10:1
  • There are two things Jesus said to demons: Shut up and Come out
  • Ignoring the devil is another way of resisting him
  • Luke 9:1
  • There is a difference between power and authority
  • Jesus didn’t usually pray for people to get healed-He commanded sickness to leave. We need to differentiate between when it’s time to pray and when it’s time to speak
  • Mark 11:23
  • It doesn’t say ‘pray’ – it says ‘say’
  • It’s unscriptural to pray about or to the devil
  • In the N.T. we are told repeatedly to “resist the devil”
  • Luke 4:14-39
  • ALL manners of problems can hear. They have a name and the Word says that everything that is named is subject to the name of Jesus. ALL manner of sickness, disease, pain, and infirmity MUST obey and bow to the name of Jesus.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
  • We are ambassadors for Christ and we are to do things as His representatives (in His place)
