ACADEMIC PROFILE

Dr. Gross completed her B.A. studies in English Literature and Linguistics, M.A. in Education (graduated with highest honors possible – Grade 100), and Ph.D. in Education (graduated with highest honors possible).

In the field of education her main interest is in courses in the qualitative study methodology (for M.A. and Ph.D. students), and sociological issues, such as, problems in Jewish education in the secular schools in Israel, democracy and education, civic education, gender education, extracurricular education (for B.A. and M.A. students).

In the field of research, her main interest is the inquiry of Jewish identity of secular and religious adolescents in Israel. Her research, so far, dealt mainly with the inquiry of Jewish religious and secular socialization processes of secular adolescents in Israel and in the formation of unique and original typologies to define this target population. Her first academic refereed book which was published by Ramot-Tel-Aviv University Press and Yad Tabenkin Press dealt with the inquiry of Jewish identity of secular kibbutzim adolescents in Israel.

Dr. Gross has won several prestigious prizes and academic awards from different sources that are connected to the kibbutzim movement (Yad Tabenkin scholarship grant and the Berl Reptor scholarship grant). Furthermore, in 1997 she won the Schupff Prize for outstanding doctoral students from the president of the university, the rector, and the various deans of different faculties in the university. She won the Schnitzer and Ihal Prize for outstanding Doctorate and the Frankfuter Prize for a significant contribution of the field of research in Jewish education. In 2004 she also won the prestigious Dafna Israleli Award for significant contribution to the field of Gender Studies

Moreover, Dr. Gross won the Beluia Maoz Prize for an outstanding student project in informal education. She was asked to serve as a referee in the Religious Education S.I.G. in the American Education Research Association (AERA) and will be the co-chair of the Religious Education and Spirituality SIG of The EARLI association (the European Association for Learning and Instruction.

Dr. Gross serves as a referee for the academic Journal of Research on Christian Education (JRCE), for the Journal of Education & Urban Society and the prestigious Hebrew refereed journal Megamot.

Dr. Gross participates in a few of the important academic activities that take place in the School of Education. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the implementation of A World of Difference Program (AWOD) of the Anti-Definition League (ADL) for university needs. She is a member of the academic activities with the Palestinian staff of El Quds University. She was chosen to be a member of the Executive Committee of the international conference of Education towards a Culture of Peace.

Dr. Gross was a participant in the committee to examine changing processes and the formation of the new policy of the Research Methodology of the School of Education. Dr. Gross was an elected representative of the staff to the Highest Education Council of the School of Education. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Israeli University network for research in Jewish education and was chosen be the Chair of the International Conference of the research network that was held in Israel in December 2000.

Dr. Gross has completed a new and independent research on religious education for girls in the religious national system in Israel under the auspices of the Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious Education. In March 2003 she was invited to the Israeli Parliament to present her research findings. An official report was published by the Israeli Parliament regarding her research findings.

Dr. Gross was chosen by The Rappaport Center to conduct an international research concerning the World of Jewish Schools in Brussels, Paris and Geneva.

Dr. Gross is participating in an international research group in Europe on religiosity, Worldviews and Values of Adolescents in the modern world. She is conducting a quantitative study on this subject among Israeli Jewish (Secular & Religious) and Arab (Muslims, Christians, Druze and Carcacians) students.
