Restarted this newspaper from Peshawar, Quetta- the newspaper was shut down after an attack by people who felt angered by a blasphemous letter; job included writing editorials; headed the opinion /editorial pages. Problem of terrorism in NWFP, especially Swat, was highlighted. Afghanistan was focused in relation with its trouble with Pakistan, as the paper’s special edition was sent daily to Afghanistan. Musharraf’s moderation was supported. Pushtoon traditions were discussed.

  • Launched this English newspaper in January 2000; brought out this newspaper in a record time of only two-and-a-half months on January 1, 2000, after joining it on October 12, 1999. Setup newsroom, reporting editorial, magazine sections, hired and trained staff, looked after management.
  • Created human rights beat reporting teams to report incidents of violations of rights and police excesses. Hired young mass communication graduates and trained them to investigate and cover law and order and human rights. Capacity building workshops were held, inviting senior journalists, legal officers and civil society representatives. Correspondents at the district level were also trained as most law and order and legal issues prevail in districts of Punjab.

APA is the biggest news agency in the world; covered all important events, especially in the Punjab, including the then British Prime Minister John Major's tour of the Punjab and many important court cases including marriage on free will –the famous SaimaWaheedRopri case in 1996, which settled the issue of consent or no consent of guardian for marriage, to human rights and sectarian-related violence, including the blast and later court proceedings in the killing in the court blast of leader of Jhang-based Sunni militant outfit, MaulanaQasmi, and injury to MaulanaAzim Tariq.

  • Set up the Media Cell as Media Specialist in AGHS Legal Aid Cell, which works closely with Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) to monitor human rights violations, especially children , women and prisoners, and preparing media responses and strategies to create awareness about legal rights and services, especially during the cases of honor killings and violence against minorities.
  • Supervised their monthly publications- Slogan and Sada-i-Azam- which focus on issues of women rights, women empowerment, shelter homes for wronged women, children well being, child prisoners, minority rights, socioeconomic problems, political, judicial and police reforms, peace with India, nuclear non-proliferation, etc; devised media strategies to create general awareness about issuesof violations of human rights, sanctity of institutions, literacy, peace, religious tolerance in general.

Wrote articles for leading journals and magazines, including Herald of the Dawn Group. Articles were investigative, like one MirzaWaqar related to Borstal Jail, Bahawalpur, concerning child prisoners, in South Punjab, condition of women prisoners in Multan jail, honor killings, karokari in Sindh , chained children in religious seminaries were taken up as issues for writing .
