Dr. ShamsulIskandar Hussein is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his Medical Degree in 1999 in India. He returned to Malaysia to complete his housemanship in University of Malaya and continued to serve the public while practising as a Medical Officer in Hospital Selayang. Later, he joined University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur as a Trainee Lecturer and subsequently in 2006, he completed his Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery in University of Malaya.

He then underwent clinical training in Arthroscopy and Sports Surgery in 2008 under the supervision of Brigadier General Dato’ Dr. Mohammad AmiruddinHamdan in the Orthopaedic Surgery Department, Health Division of the Armed Forces of Malaysia. He latercompleted 1-year Fellowship clinical training in Arthroscopy and Orthopaedic Sports in 2011 in Munich under the supervision of Professor Datuk Dr. Andreas Imhoff, among the eminent Sports Surgeons in Europe.

Dr. Shamsul’s area of interest and expertise is in the Sub-Speciality field of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Surgery, such as Cruciate Knee Ligament Reconstructions and Repairs, Multiple Ligament Knee Reconstructions and Repairs, Cartilage Tissue Repairs, Shoulder surgery and Ankle Arthroscopic Repair and Ligament Reconstruction surgeries.

Dr. Shamsul was a faculty in The Division of Orthopaedic Sports and Arthroscopy in the Orthopaedics Department, University of Malaya before entering private practice. Nevertheless, he continued to serve the society by being appointed as the Head/ Representative for the Sports Sub-Interest Group in the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA) since 2011. He is one of the founding members of the ASEAN Society for Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy (ASSA) and also was the Vice-President(Malaysia 2012-2013). He serves in the committee in Malaysian Arthroscopy Society (MAS). He is also a member of the International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). Besides being involved as a race track doctor in MotoGP race, Dr. Shamsul had also served as a Volunteer Orthopaedic Surgeon during the Middle East Conflict and was the Head of Surgical Team for the Medical Volunteer for Mercy Malaysia in Padang, Sumatera Indonesia in 2009. He was also involved in the Asean Orthopaedic Association teaching programme in Sports Medicine in Myanmar.

Dr Shamsulwas awarded the prestigious Asia-Pacific Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (APOSSM –now known as APKASS) - American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) Traveling Fellowship to North America in 2012. Along with two other Sports Surgery personalities from China, they represented Asia-Pacific continent in giving presentations during meetings and conference in North America.
