Job Title: Practice Nurse

Hours of work: 30 per week

Salary: Negotiable, dependent upon experience and qualifications

JOB PURPOSE:

·  To assist in providing the clinical nursing care for the practice population

·  To advise, support and treat persons who attend the surgery

RESPONSIBILITIES:

You are employed by the General Practitioners and are a member of the team responsible for the clinical nursing care of the practice population together with the district nursing team of the area health authority.

You will receive referrals from the General Practitioners and other members of the Primary Health Care Team.

You are encouraged to participate in the local Practice Nurse Group for training and educational purposes in order to promote good practice and professional standards.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

With other members of the practice nursing team, you will be required to:

·  Carry out immunisation and screening programmes in clinics and the community

·  Assist and/or chaperone the GP during clinical procedures and medical sessions

·  Give nursing treatments under the medical direction of the GP

·  Undertake necessary and relevant training to ensure skills and knowledge remains up to date and for continuing of the provision of clinical care

·  Liaise with the GP and district nursing sister concerning the care and follow-up care of patients

·  Undertake health education and counselling of patients as required

·  Teach patients and their families self-care where appropriate

·  Responsible for the treatment room stock and hygiene and the care of drugs and equipment

·  Keep nursing records and ensure information is recorded in the medical records

·  Liaise with all members of the primary care team

·  Set up systems of regular review for chronic disease patients

·  Assist in formulating practice protocols for managing chronic diseases

·  Work in compliance with the practice’s health and safety policies and procedures
