Dr. James Milsap Jr.
MILSAP, Dr. James, Jr. JAMES H. MILSAP, JR., MD James H. Milsap, Jr., MD (Jim), age 77, of Atlanta, GA, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 16, 2010. Born May 27, 1933 to his late parents, Lottie and HurdistMilsap, Jim was a devoted and beloved son, husband, father and grandfather who was well-known in the community as a compassionate physician and brilliant radiologist. He attended and graduated from North Fulton High School (1951), Duke University (1955), and Emory University School of Medicine (1959) followed by an internship at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Once Jim completed his radiology residency at Emory (1963), he served as a Captain and Chief of Radiology in the U.S. Army (1963-65) and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal before going in to private practice at Dekalb General, followed by Piedmont Hospital in 1967. During his 30-year career at Piedmont, Jim served as President of Radiology Associates of Atlanta, Director of Piedmont Hospital Radiology School, and as Medical Director of the Radiology Department for seven years. Dr. Milsap became a Fellow in the American College of Radiology in 1984 and also served as Associate Clinical Professor at Emory University Hospital School of Medicine. During his career, Jim was a member of the American Medical Association of GA, Medical Association of Atlanta, American College of Radiology, GA Radiological Society (President 1982-83), Atlanta Radiological Society, Atlanta Ultrasound Society, Radiological Society of North America and Atlanta Clinical Society, as well as Beta Theta Pi and Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. Upon retiring from Piedmont, Jim served as Chief Radiologist for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and continued to practice as Chief Radiologist at the Georgia Institute of Technology Student Health Center. In 2010, Dr. Milsap was the Honorary Chairman of the Piedmont Ball, recognizing his many years of dedicated service to the hospital. An accomplished musician, he enjoyed playing the upright bass and spent many years performing with The Atlanta Seventeen Orchestra. Dedicated to his savior, Jesus Christ, Jim had been an active member at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir and serving as a deacon. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Joan LimehouseMilsap; his children: son, James Michael Milsap and wife, Claudia, of Lawrenceville, GA; son, Gary Steven Milsap and wife, Rosemary, of Athens, GA; and daughter, Patricia Joanne (Joni) Milsap Santos and husband, Carter, of Atlanta, GA; as well as grandchildren: Stephanie, Cody, Kirsten, Hannah, Cole, Brendan and Sloane. A memorial service presided by Dr. Stephen M. Huntley and Rev. Vicki Franch will be on Friday, the twentieth of August at eleven in the morning at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Rd., NW, Atlanta, GA, followed by a visitation with the family in the Williams Center.
