Dear Patient

For the last few monthsthe GP partners at St Anne's & William Street Surgeries have been discussing the potential for merging the two practices. Thenationalplans for general practice see larger groupings of GPs working together and serving areasthat are about the size of Herne Bay. We already worked together as four practices inthe town on a number of projects, most recently the Minor Injuries Unit at the Queen Vic and have recently seenthe Park Surgery & Coach House Surgery merging. There are many advantages to closer working, not least inmaintainingall that we see as important in serving our patients.

Negotiations between St Anne's andWilliam Street have now reached a stage where we have set ourselves a target of merging by April 1 2018. Details need to be worked through but we currently do not envisage much change in how services are provided and patients should not notice much inthe wayof change except that they may at times see different clinicians. We should be able to support each otherparticularly in providingsurgeries and nursing clinics. Being able to use a wider group of both clinical and non-clinical colleagues should also help us work more efficiently. We willbe able to develop town wide services withthe Park/Coach Housewhilst remaining as two separate organisations. All existing premises will remain open for the foreseeable future, so you will continue to be seen at your usual site. The combined Practices will be renamed “The Heron Medical Practice”.

Given the direction of travel ofthe NHS currently we feel this is the best way forward to protect what is reallyimportant to us, that is the care of the people of HerneBay and working with ourcolleagues in other parts ofthe healthservice.

We will be holding consultation meetings for patients in the near future, where you can drop in and Drs and staff from both surgeries will be available to answer your questions and allay any concerns you may have. The dates and times of these meetings will be published on our website, our Facebook page, within the surgery and in the local press.

Yours sincerely

Dawn Simmons
