Section A- Fluency and Comprehension-

Materials: Dr. Cupp Readers & Journal Writers Part 2 p. 153-154, Reader#43 p. 1

Objectives: TLW read the sight words her, were, first, hurt, baby, and care.
TLW read with fluency.
TLW answer comprehension questions.
TLW correct punctuation errors.
Procedure: Introduction of New Sight Words, her, were, first, hurt, baby, and care. The New Sight Words are easily sounded out, except for the word baby. (Babyis difficult because students will not receive instruction on y making the e sound until Lesson 58.) Students should independently sound out the words and then take turns saying them quickly. The teacher may write the New Sight Words on index cards and randomly call on students to say the words as quickly as possible.
Write like the English Book
The teacher will write this sentence on the board or chart paper: mom rabbit said, I want the little rabbits to help someone
The teacher tells the students that there are five mistakes in the sentence. The students take turns coming to the board and making the corrections. The teacher reviews with the students when to use capital letters, quotation marks, and periods.

Section B- -Hop’n Pop Sight Words-
1/3 of the group time
Materials: timer, Reader #43 p.4-6, Dr. Cupp Readers & Journal Writers Part 2, p. 155.
Objective: TLW read sight words with speed and accuracy.
If students continue to make the same mistakes on Hop’nPop, write down the words that were missed. Keep small index cards handy, and once the student has finished his or her turn saying Hop’n Pop, ask him or her to call out the words they need to practice. The teacher will write the words on index cards, and students will take the cards home.

Materials: Reader #43 p. 6-7, Manual p.150-151, Toolbox Decks 23, 27, and 31, and The Word House Book pages 16 and 17.
Objective: TLW sound out words using the long vowel sounds.
TLW switch long and short vowels.
TLW understand there are rules to follow when sounding out words.
TLW sound out R-Controlled Vowels.
Do not skip this Lesson. This is a review Lesson, but students will benefit from extra practice with these key components of phonics instruction.
P.6 and 7 Assessment
Students will sound out any four words randomly selected by the teacher. The teacher will select words that include a variety of vowel sounds being reviewed. The teacher will record the scores on the Lesson Plan Sheet. Lesson Plan Sheets may be downloaded from:

Discuss the pictures and story.
