Confirmation of the minutes:
Minutes of the meeting held on 24thNovember was read and confirmed with some amendments.
-The Secretary apologized for missing Dr. J.Ranatunge’s name in attendance list.
-Dr. J.Ranatunge requested to send SR/Venereology to the peripheral STD Clinics for a short period….
Matters arising from the minutes:
2011/Jan/01 CME Activities
Dr.J.Ranatunge will continue as the in charge of arranging CME activities Dr.Nalaka will be responsible for arranging Journal clubs. CME activities will be arranged on third Wednesday of the month. As it is convenient for PG trainees and the Consultants working in the peripheral STD clinicsto attend on the same day for Journal club and HIV/STI case discussion , council members suggested to keep both activities on first Wednesday of the month starting from 12 .15 pm. The president agreed to discuss with Director to get his permission.
2011/Jan/02 Updating STI Guidelines
Dr. Wickramasuriya said that the Guidelinesweresending for printing.
2011/Jan/03. Fund supporting PLWHA
Dr.N.Punchihewa suggested the treasurer to present the detail of patient support fund at the council meeting as it will be a motivation to raise the fund. The treasurer said that approximately Rs.30, 000.00 is remaining in the fund.
2011/Jan/04.Selection of new office bearers
As the Secretary is leaving her foreign training, assistant secretary is preparing for her MD and the treasurer currently works in Kandy STD Clinic it was decided to select new office bearers. As the new group of SRs will stay for the next year, the President and the other council members preferred to select the Secretary and the Treasurer from them. Dr.C.D.Wickramasuriya proposed Dr.RasngaLiyanage as the Secretary ,Dr.DarshaniMallikaarachchi as the assistant secretary and Dr.ChamindaDodampegamage as the Treasurer. The other council members agreed.
Dr.J.Ranatunge, the President elect said that as Dr.GangaPathirana came back to Sri Lanka she is willing to hand over the responsibility to Dr.G.Pathirana. Dr.GangaPathrana said she need some time to consider this matter, therefore, she requested Dr.Ranatunge to remain in her position until that.
2011/Jan/04, Any other matters
1. A cupboard to the College
As there is no space to keep the cupboard, it will be arranged later.
2. Colposcopy
Dr.Wickramasuriya said once the problem with adequate space is sorted out it will be discussed later.
3. College Photograph
Dr.Wickramasuriya said that she couldn’t discuss with Director regarding this matter and she will talk with him to get his permission to arrange thephotograph in the Auditorium-I.
4. Updating the website
Dr.Wickramasuriya said that Dr.Priyantha Weerasinghe agreed to take the responsibility of updating the website.
5. Commemorating the1st death anniversary of Dr.GaminiJayakuru
Dr.Wickramasuriyaannounced that the 1st death anniversary of late Dr.GaminiJayakuru is on 16th of February 2011 and his photograph will be unveiled in Director’s office on that day between 1.30pm-3.00pm. Dr.G.Weerasinghe and Dr.N.Punchihewa suggested arranging the photograph of other previous Directors also. Dr.Wickramasuriya said that she will discuss this matter with Director.
6. Invitation from Orthopedic Association
Orthopedic association invited The College of Venereologist to deliver a guest lecture in their CME activities starting from April tentatively. They will officially send the letter later. The topic should be relevant to HIV and Surgical practice. The College agreed to send a Consultant Venereologist.
7. Health Services minutes
Dr.G.Weerasinghe suggested appointing a committee to discuss the issues in the minutes of Health Services; therefore it was decided to meet on 28th of February ….
8. Appointment of Dr.GangaPathirana (Con.Venereologist, Kandy)
Dr.GangaPathirana was present to the meeting and read the letter received from the Provincial Director,Kandy. On return of her approved overseas leave for 2 years on a contract basis with SAARC , she reported to Teaching Hospital, Kandy and informed the relevant administrative authorities - DPDHS and the PD through hospital Director to provide her necessary arrangement to take over her duty in STD Clinic,Kandy. But she receivd a letter form the PD saying that her Venereology services are not required to Kandy STD Clinic as an acting Venereologist and trained Medical Officers are currently providing the necessary services. Dr.G.Weerasinghe said the lettr is not acceptable and we have to protest as she is the one and only Consultantwho can care for HIV positive people. He further suggested meeting the Secretary to Health Services regarding this matter. Dr.J.Ranatunge suggested to get an early date to meet him.Other College members agreed his suggestion. Dr .C.D.Wickramasuriya said as the secretary is presently out of the country , once he return to the Country she will make an early appointment.
