Downloading and converting WMA files from Olympus to Mac using STF computer

1)  Record voice using buttons on the right side of Olympus. There will be a large letter in the top left corner of the screen. Remember what letter appears there (most likely A).

2)  Once you are done recording, slide the hold button and wait for the recorder to say “Hold” on the screen.

3)  Unplug the bottom half of the voice recorder using the “Release” button on the back of it.

4)  Plug recorder into the Mac’s USB port. A drive named “WS_331M” will show up on the desktop

5)  Once you click on this drive, different folders named DSS_FLDA, DSS_FLDB, and so on will appear. Click on the folder with the letter corresponding to the one from step 1. Anything you have recorded will show up as a .wma file.

6)  In the Menu bar on the top of the screen, click “Go” and then “Applications”

7)  Open the “Switch” Application

8)  Highlight the WMA files from step 5, and drag them into the Switch Application

9)  Choose the correct Output folder, such as “Desktop” and Choose .mp3 as the output format.

10) Press “Convert”.

11) The files are now in .mp3 format and are saved to the Output location you chose. You may now drag them into iTunes or another music program.

12) When you are done using the voice recorder, drag the drive labeled “WS_331M” to the Trash can, and then you may remove the recorder.

13) Don’t forget to slide the Hold button and make sure the screen says “hold” before you put the recorder away- this serves as the power button.

Downloading and converting WMA files from Olympus to Mac using own computer

1)  If you do not already have a program that expands .zip files, you will need an expander. You can download the STUFFIT expander for Mac for free at http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/ . Save and install this program.

2)  The application that will actually convert the WMA file to .mp3 is called “Switch”. You can enter “free switch converter for Mac” you will find a number of links to the free download. This is a .zip file, so you will need to use StuffIt, or other expanding program, to open the file. Save and install this program.

3)  The last download you will need to use these programs are Windows Media Components for Quicktime. You can download this for free at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx

4)  Save and install that program, and then follow steps 1-13 above to record and convert your files.

5)  If you are unable to download these components on your computer, STF Mac computers are available for check out that have all of the required programs to convert the WMA file.
