MANAGERS COMMENTS

First of all I would like to thank my team for putting up a good fight against Kent on Saturday. We all knew that Kent were going to be a strong side.

Rink 2 - Nick Voss

Nick Voss welcomed Dean Curtis to his rink. Nick got off to a good start, picking up a 3 on the first end, however Kent came back to lead on the first five ends by 4 shots. At the end of ten ends Nick improved his score to 9 – 11 down. On the next five ends Kent eased away leaving the score at 10 – 17. There were obvious signs that Kent were becoming strong opposition and played very well to bring a final score of 14 – 21.

Rink 3 - Peter Ward

Peter Ward picked up 3 on the first end but Kent came back strongly. At the end of the first five ends Peter’s rink were 5 – 7 down. At ten ends Peter made a good recovery to leave him only 2 shots down. At fifteen ends he went behind 11 – 16. Kent came out eventual winners at twenty ends winning by 2 shots.

Rink 4 - Barry Patterson

Barry always knew when he drew Andy Thompson that he would have his work cut out. At the first five ends Barry’s team failed to score. On the sixth end he picked up 1 shot which was greeted by huge applause from our supporters, but at ten ends Kent went ahead by 10 – 3. The next five ends Barry picked up 4 shots, trailing Kent by 7 – 12. Kent eventually running out to a 16 – 9 win. Barry’s comments to myself was that Andy Thompson was a pain in the rear but he still enjoyed the game. The score line did not reflect how Barry’s rink played and they did well to return a score with only a seven deficit.

Rink 5 - Chris Daniels

Chris got off to a slow start for the first five ends, tying at 3 shots each. At ten ends Chris’s rink led by four shots. At fifteen ends he was definitely getting the better of his opposite number going ahead by 14 – 10. From there on in Chris’s rink gave a final score of 17 – 15. Many congratulations to Chris Daniels, Chris Weeks, Pat Ravelin and Kevin Downs.

Rink 6 - Ben Paulley

It was good to see Ben back skipping his rink. Phil Lawrence handing the mantle back to Ben after his recent illness. After the first five ends Ben was off to a slow start going 7 – 2 down. The next five ends Ben picked up seven shots, going in front 9 – 7. At fifteen ends Kent returned the score of 14 – 11. At twenty ends the game was tied at 16 shots each. The final end was won by Ben’s rink picking up 3 shots giving a final score of 19 – 16. Once again, for the third time in this series, Dorset’s top winning rink were Chris Lawrence, John Jepson, Phil Lawrence and Ben Paulley.

Rink 7 - Martin Puckett

Martin’s rink at five ends led by 4 – 3. At ten ends the score was 5 – 9. At fifteen ends Martin made a good recovery picking up 9 shots to Kent’s nil, making a score of 14 – 9. Unfortunately for Martin, Kent, with an almighty charge made a final score of 15 – 27.

Before we commenced the game two presentations were made. Jim Garner and Chris Lawrence received their Liberty flash and congratulations were offered to Jamie and Rachael on the birth of Evie. Although we knew we were up against a strong team in Kent our boys still played with pride and enthusiasm and at thirteen ends we were 62 – 60 up. I have been really proud to be associated with our team. Once again I would like to thank Andy Paulley for all his assistance. Not forgetting Wilf Bennett and John Hill for all their contributions. A huge thank you to all my players for getting us to the quarter finals and next year we will go further. Finally, I appreciated the support from our executive committee and all our supporters (Dorset’s Barmy Army).
