PARISH HALL
Following the AGM there are two vacancies for Trustees and also a Minutes Secretary. Please consider being a Trustee it only involves meeting about four times a yearand helping make decisions safeguarding the hall as a valuable community asset. Minutes Secretary requires slightly more time commitment, but is essential to ensure proper records of meetings and decisions are recorded. Again please consider volunteering and contact the Chairman, Brian George on 01409 211643.
A decision at the AGM was that hall charges should be adjusted as there had been no increase since opening. Details are attached to this newsletter. The new charges apply from June 1st for new bookings.
COMMUNITY SHOP AND POST OFFICE
At the AGM it was confirmed the shop is utilizing reserves each month as not quite enough is being earned to meet expenses. A slight increase in the numbers using the shop and or spending a little more is all that is needed. The shop can only succeed with your support.
The need for more volunteers is apparent. Opening hours cannot be extended unless there are people available to serve customers. Would you be prepared to work unpaid for two hours between say 5pm and 7pm on a Friday evening so that those who work during the day can use the shop after work? Are you willing to do the accounts? Is anyone available to design and print promotional leaflets? How about taking a turn at cleaning on Saturday or Sunday at close of business?
New lines bearing the ‘Ashwater Gold Label’ have now been introduced – come along and select from delicious cider cake, cherry genoa or a range of brownies, flapjacks and buttery biscuits.

In addition to the current planning application for three wind turbines at Dunsland Cross (Brandis Corner) there is now a scoping request for seven wind turbines at Hollow Panson (Chapman’s Well).
The three turbines proposed at Brandis Corner are between 95metres and 100metres high and will be visible from parts of Ashwater Parish and close to some residential buildings.
The seven at Hollow Panson are proposed to be 126.5metres high. The closest settlement to the application site will be the hamlet of Henford, which is located around 800metres to the North East of the closest turbine.
Two applications for solar panel arrays have been submitted, one at Whiddon Farm, Ashwater and the other at Hunscott Farm, Ashwater.
