WeVideo Guidelines

Definition:

WeVideo is defined as the process of editing segments of motion video production footage, special effects and sound recordings to communicate non-fictional and fictional events. The goals of editing is to manipulate these events to bring the communication closer to the original goal or target. It is a visual art.

Students in grades 3 – 5 are eligible to enter the 5th grade level.

Contest Theme – “This is how using technology in the classroom will benefit my learning

Create a video that provides information about the contest theme.

The project must contain:

  1. A clear message
  1. Address areas of learning that may include, but not limited to:

·  Improve reading skills

·  Help with research skills

·  Participate in engaging activities

·  Collaborate in cooperative activities

·  Using iPads, laptops, or other devices in the classroom

·  How can technology assist in my homework assignments?

  1. Information must be cited and credited.
  2. Each contestant must have their own username and password to the WeVideo website.

Contest Rules for Website usage:

The student can use an index card to remember the computer login and WeVideo website login.

The student must create a new wevideo project at the day of competition.

The technology events coordinator will create a teacher / class account for the technology sponsors.

Once the technology sponsor receives the account information, the sponsor will create the student accounts within the teacher’s account.

The sponsor must provide the correct username and password of each student and the teacher’s account on the UIL Entry Form.

Other Rules:

Credits / Work Cited must be attached to the UIL Entry Form and then placed in the project.

Students will be in the contest room the full time starting from roll call to completion of project.

There will be no preliminaries and judges/grader will finalize results during the 1st contest day.


Judging Criteria

Content/Purpose 20%

·  The purpose of the project is clear and well conveyed

·  Attention is given to theme and compelling

·  A rich variety of supporting information in the video

·  Knowledge of subject is evident

Creativity & Originality 30%

·  Transitions are used in an effective way

·  Special effects, titles, text, color, & graphics are creative

·  The project includes use of tools in unconventional ways

Design/Layout 40%

·  Events and messages are presented in a logical order and smooth

·  Video moves smoothly from scene to scene with all elements

·  Titles are added to enhance understanding

·  Audio is clear and effectively assists in communicating the main idea

Credits/Work Cited 10%

·  All works are properly credited at end of video and permission is granted in writing

for their use, if necessary

·  All sources are properly cited
