Call for AMCOP Student Research Grant Proposals, Spring 2014

Dear AMCOP Student Members:

The members of AMCOP (a regional affiliate of the American Society of Parasitologists, ASP) are pleased to announce the 3rd annual AMCOP Student Research Grant competition. Twoawards of $500 are available. Onegrant will be awarded to an undergraduate student, and one grant to a graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.). The AMCOP Student Research Grant Committee reserves the right to award the grants to any combination of undergraduate and graduate students, depending on the quality of proposals received. Grants must be used to support field or laboratory research related expenses (equipment, supplies, or travel to field sites). Salaries, travel to meetings, and purchase of books will not be supported.

Details about eligibility and application materials follow. Instructions must be followed completely for consideration. Proposals that are late, incomplete, or do not follow the requested format will not be considered. Proposals will be evaluated based on significance, clarity (questions asked, methods used to address questions), feasibility, and need.

Eligibility:

 students & faculty advisors must be members of AMCOP: student dues are $5; dues form is attached to this document. Mail to Robert Sorensen,Minnesota State University, Mankato.

 students who have received 2 previous AMCOP Student Research Grants are not eligible

 students who receive an AMCOP Student Research Grant must commit to presenting their results at the AMCOP meeting the year following the receipt of their award

Project description:

Font size at least 12 point (13cpi). Margins at least 1 inch
Length: maximum 2 pages, single-spaced, including literature cited
Content must address the following:

Introduction—brief overview of study topic, hypotheses to be tested, and specific aims/objectives, with references to appropriate literature

Materials & Methods—how, where, and when the proposed research will be conducted

Expected Results—what patterns will support (or refute) your hypotheses?

Significance—how will this research improve the general knowledge in the field of parasitology?

 Literature cited—list sources of information cited, in style of Journal of Parasitology

Grants will be awarded at AMCOP 66, June5-7 at The University of Kentucky, inLexington, KY.
Awardees are required to present their results at AMCOP 67.

*Note: Eli Lilly continues to support the Herrick Award, but the remainder of the awards -
