Grants, Awards and Honors

Mellon Faculty-Student Summer Research Grant, Summer 2009, with Rebecca Halsey to support research on integrative complexity of world leaders.

Conference Grant from the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy. Grant helped fund the Austin College Asia Week event entitled Taiwan’s Democratic Culture. 2007.

Mellon Faculty-Student Summer Research Grant, Summer 2006, with Katie Scofield. Katie traveled to Taiwan to continue her research on Indigenous Politics in Taiwan that she initiated under the Asianetwork-Freeman Grant in 2005. Katie presented her research at 3 conferences and completed an honor’s thesis on the topic. She will continue her research on this topic in the Ph.D. program at Indiana-Bloomington.

Recipient of funding from a USDOE Title VI grant to travel to Japan for research on Challenges to Japanese Identity. Summer 2006.

Asianetwork-Freeman Foundation Faculty-Student Research Grant for research with students in Taiwan, Summer 2005. I brought four students to Taiwan to conduct research on different aspects of Taiwan’s politics. Each student presented their research at the Southwestern Political Science Association Annual meeting in 2006.

Mellon Faculty-Student Summer Research Grant, Summer 2005, with Krista Fisher. Krista conducted field research in Egypt to investigate the history and political policies of the Muslim Brotherhood. Krista presented her research at two academic conferences and completed an honors thesis on the topic.
