1.Introduction
This position manages the school run canteen operations to provide healthy food for students and staff. Working hours are normally between 08.30am to 3.00pmfive days per week. The occupant is a School Council Employee, paid at the ES1-2 rate with leave entitlements according to the Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2017. The appointee will be required to provide a satisfactory police records check as a condition of employment. 2.Nature of the Role
The Canteen Managerensures that a safe and hygienic canteen service is provided to the school community.
3.Accountability
The Canteen Manager is directly accountable to the Business Manager and also works with the Canteen Committee that reports to the Finance Committee.
4.Roles and Responsibilities
Provision of Safe & Hygienic Canteen Services
- Ensure that all canteen items are stored, prepared and served in accordance with the current Health Department standards.
- Ensure that all canteen food preparation areas, equipment, benches, sinks and work area floor are thoroughly cleaned each day and are maintained in a clean and safe condition
- Ensure that all work practices are safe and that all equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe condition. Any maintenance needs or damage is to be reported immediately for rectification
Management of Staff and Volunteers
- Supervise and train paid canteen staff and volunteers to perform their work to the required standards with emphasis on food handling, hygiene and safe work practices
- Management of manuals, policies and procedures
- Ensure a sufficient supply of volunteers help with the daily running of the canteen by drawing up rosters term by term
- Develop ongoing positive relationships with all volunteers
Purchasing Supplies
- Under direction, purchase supplies and materials as necessary, and in accordance with School Purchasing Policies
- Check, prepare and put away stores and supplies
Ordering and control of canteen supplies
- Order canteen supplies, keeping accurate records of orders
- Check deliveries against orders for accuracy before approving payment
- Pass invoices to Accounts section for payment
- Liaise with Canteen Buying Group and suppliers to obtain best price for supply items
- Exercise stock control and safe storage to prevent theft, spoilage or exceeding use by dates
- Coordinate weekly shopping with parent volunteers
Financial
- Take all appropriate measures to ensure that cash received is secure from theft while in the canteen
- Ensure that all cash is accounted for after daily trading and passed to the Cashier for receipting and banking. No cash is to be stored in the canteen apart for the daily cash float
- Ensure that stock take is conducted twice per year
- Identify price changes for goods and where necessary, recommend action
Other duties as directed by the Principal
5.Qualifications
The occupant will hold a current Food Hygiene for Supervisors Certificate.
Experience in managing a work environment would be advantageous.
Knowledge and experience in food preparation would also be advantageous.
Successful applicant must hold a current Working with Children Check

SC1 Demonstrated experience and skills in coordinating a specific education support function.
SC2 Demonstrated capacity to supervise the work of other support staff and to develop procedures and guidelines relating to the work area.
SC3 Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills.
SC4 Possess the technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the position.
SC5 Demonstrated capacity to provide advice and support to management in respect to the work area.
