BOSWELL HIGH SCHOOL

December 15, 2016

BOS Family,

On Friday, we will begin the winter break with early release for all of our students. It is my hope that each of our students takes the time to be with his /her family during the break and returns to school on January 3, 2017 refreshed and ready to learn. My daughter and her family arrive tomorrow night from New Hampshire and I am so very eager to see my grandbaby over the holidays. I will have some additional exciting news to share with you after we return from break!

Boswell, once again, has had an incredible week of accolades. First and foremost, I would like to share with you that we had a video crew on site Tuesday from Model Schools. As you may recall, Boswell High School was selected as 1 of 16 Model Schools in the nation for our work in regards to increasing the rigor and relevance in the classroom. Specifically, the video crew visited 5 selected classrooms and took footage that will be utilized nationwide as part of their training offered to other schools. This is incredible recognition for the work our teachers and students do in the classroom each and every day that is supported by our students’ performance in the following areas:

·  STAAR scores continue to improve

·  2015-16 STAAR Commended scores increased in 4 out of 5 areas

·  Increase in Advanced Placement performance and AP Honors

·  Increase in SAT and ACT performance

·  Increase in campus attendance rate

·  Increase in overall passing rates

·  Increase in TEA Distinctions in regards to campus rating

It is no wonder that it is a great day to be a Pioneer each and every day. Please help me celebrate the accomplishments of our students and school from the following week:

·  Boswell awarded District PBIS Gold Award

·  UIL Computer Science placed 1st and 2nd in the individual completion and 4th overall at our 1st competition this year.

·  BOS Competition Cheer fished in 1st place in their division at the Spirt Celebration Classic

·  2 first place finishes in their weight class in Boys/ Girls Wrestling

·  Girls Swim takes 1st place at the Irving Winter Invitational

·  An incredible performance of Sister Act

·  Band and Jazz Band holiday performances were amazing

·  Lady Pioneer Basketball’s opener for District ended in a “W”

·  Numerous students have received acceptance letters from college and are adding to our wall of fame

·  10 Senior students selected to participate in the YMCA’s Future Leaders of Fort Worth

Once we return from break, students will complete their current units and then begin reviewing for semester exams. Please keep the following in mind: 1) no exemptions are given for semester exams and 2) no exams are to be given early. As always, we ask for your assistance in ensuring your son/daughter is in attendance each and every day to adequately prepare for their success.

As you take time to celebrate with family over the holidays, I hope you take pride in our school and share our accolades with family and friends. We are currently at 2,536 Twitter followers and we would like to reach 2600 by January 3. Please help us reach our goal and spread the word @boswellhs

Happy Holidays from the faculty and staff of Boswell High School! As always, It Is a Great Day to Be a Pioneer!
