Course description:

Attention all Ye Knights in Armor

Twenty years ago on October 9, 1994 a house fire in Winnipeg took the life of an infant girl and seriously injured the three firefighters that were trying to rescue her. Barry suffered second and third degree burns from the flashover and several broken bones as a result of jumping from a second floor window to escape the hostile environment. He was hospitalized in a Burn Unit for 16 days and he was able to return to work seven months after the injury.

This tragic event was a catalyst for many positive life changes for Barry Borkowski and his family. Barry is here to talk about the details of how that incident unfolded that morning and the long term changes that this event initiated in improving the design of fire fighter protective equipment. Barry will also compare his incident to the Winnipeg flashover of February 2007 which took the lives of two captains and seriously burned several firefighters. You will leave with several lessons learned from those incidents to assist you in staying safe.
