Welcome to 2nd Grade where we are “Knowledge is our Superpower!”
What to look for:
Daily: Binders
Each day your child will bring home their binder. In the binder you will find an agenda where students will write down their homework. Students are expected to complete reading, spelling, and math homework each night. They also are expected to review study guides for science or social studies. Homework is checked the day after it is assigned. Please initial your child’s agenda each evening to communicate to your student’s teacher that you are aware of assigned homework. Binders aid in the development of organization and responsibility. Please help your child stay organized by leaving papers in the binder because we often use these papers in class.
Tuesdays: Orange Tuesday Folders
Tuesday folders need to be checked on Tuesdays and returned on Wednesdays with important papers filled out and signed. We will send home graded papers in the Tuesday folders. If your student receives a D or F on a paper please sign the paper and return to your child’s teacher. File graded papers that come home in your student’s binder under the correct tab.
Biweekly:Newsletter
We will send home a second grade newsletter every other week. It is very important to read over the newsletter because it will alert you of upcoming events and expectations of students.
Behavior Colors:
Purple- I went above and beyond my teacher’s expectations
Green – I had a great day!
Yellow – Warning: student reminded of expected behavior
Orange – School consequence and behavior plan sent home for parent signature
Blue – Time out
Red – Office referral
Attendance and Transportation:
Please be on time! Your child will be marked tardy after 7:40 a.m.
Please send a note with your child if there is a change in transportation. Be sure to include the date, teacher’s name, student’s first and last name, and a parent/guardian signature. Please DO NOT write the note in your child’s agenda! Notes need to be sent to the office and we cannot send their agenda to the office.
Dress Code:
Reminder – NO flip flops! Students walk/run laps on the track every day, so shoes must be appropriate.
Girls – no tank tops with thin straps or halters. Shorts/skirts must be at least finger-tip length.
Boys – pants must fit your waist, so wear a belt if needed.
