Write your own beot/boast

Beowulf makes his beot before Hrothgar, king of the Danes.

He presents his accomplishments and promises to purge Grendel from Herot Hall

Like any boast, a beot contains exaggeration, colorful details, and a promise to do more great things.

Write your own beot that might be spoken by a famous person, living or dead or your own about yourself.

Include:

·  One example of 3 parallel verbs

·  One example of 3 parallel participles -- action words ending in ing or ed that describe a person, place or thing (noun)

·  A genealogy statement

·  A simile (a creative comparison using like or as)

·  10 lines and at least 100 words

·  first person: write as if the famous person were speaking the beot

Sample:

I Bruce Springsteen, son of Asbury Park, singer of songs,

Have played to vast audiences all over the world.

My fans are as numerous as the stars in the sky -- presidents,

Supermodels, housewives, truck drivers, baseball players, businessmen--

They all listen to my lyrics, dance to my rhythms, adore my albums.

Embracing my guitar, jamming with my band, rasping my songs,

I command the spotlight like no one else.

Much gold have I earned by my magical playing,

Many awards have I won for my great talent.

There are younger musicians who’d love to claim my position;

They wriggle like worms and screech like chickens, and dazzle little girls.

But there’s only one rocker whose music will always rule the airways:

Bruce the Boss, Bruce the Mighty, Bruce the Immortal.

The line of my platinum albums will stretch to infinity.

Your children’s children will still be listening to me

When other sounds have died away to silence.

You will be presenting your boast out loud in class. The following rubric will be used for grading. This assignment will be worth 40 points.
