We express our appreciation to you for your leadership and for the care you give to your stewardship here at BYU-Idaho. We commend you for your care and for your efforts. As a university leadership, we believe each of us has an important stewardship to provide a quality student experience while simultaneously looking for ways to serve more students within our resource constraints. As President Hinckley has stated, “[I]f we cannot give to all, let us give to as many as we can.”
This template should be used to guide your efforts in preparing the 2019 Department Stewardship Review. All instructions should be removed and replaced with your department-specific information.
BYU-Idaho Mission StatementBrigham Young University-Idaho was founded and is supported and guided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Its mission is to develop disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the Church, and their communities.
The university does this by:
1. Building testimonies of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and fostering its principles
in a wholesome academic, cultural, and social environment.

Note:Recognize that as a university we have a shared goal to maintain the total Church appropriation across the university at a constant—other than ordinary increases that are
tied to all CES institutions. If we continue to grow, there will be some additional resources tied to variable increases in tuition. Requests for expanded resources will be tied to
those constraints.

Note:At a university aggregate level, it appears that BYU-Idaho has sufficient capacity in terms of both space and FTE for 2019s forecasted student growth. While situations will vary by department, FTE and other budget requests will be evaluated based on the strength of the outcome measures included in the stewardship review materials. Also, departments are encouraged to look at increased efficiencies and student employment options before making FTE requests.

Tips for preparing effective stewardship review materials- Keep it simple.
- Back up your claims.
- Make meaningful comparisons
a.Last year to this year.
b.Industry standards, etc.
- Think multiple perspectives and triangulate in on your targets.
- Be improvement-minded.
- It’s important not to surprise your line management. Surface any concerns (important issues, deficits, etc.) you have with your line management prior to the actual Stewardship Review.
