Bequests and other testamentary gifts by generous alumnae, parents and friends have been sources of financial support for Georgetown Visitation for many years. The continuation and expansion of this tradition of remembrance will contribute to Georgetown Visitation’s future financial strength and continued academic excellence.

The 1799 Society recognizes all those who have included Georgetown Visitation in their long-term plans through a bequest provision in their will or trust, a life-income gift, or other deferred gift. A gift to Visitation through your estate plan automatically entitles you to a membership in the 1799 Society, the President’s Council and invitations to annual major donor events.

You can make a specific gift to Georgetown Visitation of cash, securities, real estate or other property through your will, codicil or trust instrument. You can also designate Georgetown Visitation as the beneficiary of all or part of the remainder of your estate or trust after the payment of estate-related expenses, other bequests, or following the death of a spouse or other primary beneficiaries. Another way to include Georgetown Visitation in your estate plan is to name Visitation as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.

SAMPLE TESTAMENTARY LANGUAGE

“I give (______dollars) or (a specific asset, such as securities, real estate, or other property) or (all) or (______) percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate) to Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, DC (for its general purposes) or (for the following purpose:______).”

While unrestricted gifts allow Georgetown Visitation to allocate funds to areas of greatest need, you may designate your bequest for particular purpose or use by a specific program or activity at Visitation. In order to ensure that the evolving educational needs of future generations of students are met, it is advisable to include the following language with restricted gifts:

DOCUMENTING YOUR BEQUEST INTENTION

In order to support the educational mission and Salesian tradition of Georgetown Visitation, I have included a non-contingent bequest to Visitation as part of my estate plan. A copy of the relevant provision of my will, trust or beneficiary designation form is attached. If I make any change to this provision, I will notify Visitation of such change.
