Job title:Individual Giving and Legacy Fundraiser

Salary:£28,000 to £30,000per annum

Reports to:Major Donor Fundraising Manager

Location:The Poppy Factory, Richmond, Surrey with flexibility where appropriate

Hours:Full time, 37.5 hours a week. There may be requirement for evening and/or weekend work for which time off in lieu will be given.

Purpose of the role:

To work with the Major Donor Fundraising Manager in development and implementation of a strategy to deliver unrestricted income from regular and one-off donors and which supports the development of a legacy fundraising strategy in the longer term.

The Poppy Factory is fortunate to have around 10,000 people visiting the factory each year, many of whom offer one-off gifts.

The focus of this role will be to develop compelling materials, case studies and fundraising “asks” which encourage these visitors to become regular givers and engage at a wider level with the charity.

This is a new role for The Poppy Factory and we are confident that with the growing interest in our work and the significant increase in visitors over the last 5 years, the role has the potential to generate significant income for the charity.

The role will also focus on the development of a legacy giving strategy by developing appropriate materials to encourage supporters to leave a gift in their will and ensuring that these messages are communicated across all our income streams.

Principal Duties:

The key duties specific to this role are:

  1. To work with the Head of Fundraising and Major Donor Fundraising Manager to develop a co-ordinated Individual Giving strategy to grow income across individual giving streams
  1. To contribute to the development of a legacy giving strategy to be communicated across all income giving streams, ensuring that legacy giving messages are consistent across the organisation.

This will include:

  • Increasing the amount of income raised through our tour experience.
  • Developing a regular giving programme which can be targeted towards both tour visitors and other individual supporters.
  • Identifying appropriate means of donor acquisition and retention.
  • Cultivating relationships with existing donors; developing a structured donor journey to increase engagement and interaction with the charity.
  • Take ownership of the donor journey to ensure that supporters are welcomed, thanked and stewarded effectively.
  • Recommend and then work with the Head of Fundraising/Major Donor Fundraising Manager and Marketing and Communications Manager to develop appropriate marketing materials to support the acquisition of donors and implement a regular giving programme.
  • To create and project manage an annual communication plan for regular donors, ensuring the highest possible standard of supporter care for all individual donors.
  • To develop a legacy giving strategy appropriate for donors across all giving streams.
  • Once established, use the all relevant communications channels to champion legacy giving and suggest new and innovative ways to promote legacy giving.
  • Work alongside the Finance Department and Fundraising Administrator to track donations and pledges and ensure regular gifts are managed in accordance with donors’ wishes.
  • Process Gift Aid applications throughout the year to achieve maximum benefits.
  • Use Harlequin CRM system for efficient recording of existing, lapsed and potential donors.
  • Complete monthly and quarterly reports for Individual Giving based on activity, numbers and budget status.
  • Work with the Head of Fundraising and Major Gifts Fundraising Manager to forecast annual income and expenditure budgets
  • To work across the Fundraising department and wider organisation promoting good working practice in individual giving.
  • Ensure that all activities meet the requirements of the Charity Commission, the Fundraising Regulator, the forthcoming Fundraising Preference Service, the Institute of Fundraising’s code of conduct, the Data Protection Act and best practice, in accordance with The Poppy Factory’s internal compliance policies
  • To contribute to the development of the fundraising team and function by contributing to meetings and taking on ad hoc projects and fundraising activities as appropriate.

Person Specification

Essential Experience, Skills and Capabilities

  • Proven experience of individual givingand/or legacy fundraising, with a good understanding of the relevant fundraising market and trends.
  • Proven track record of working within either individual givingor legacy fundraising environment with demonstrable ability to transfer skills between the two areas.
  • Ability to apply a broad range of communication skills to influence, motivate and persuade a wide range of people to donate.
  • Demonstrable experience of achieving income against agreed targets
  • Demonstrable experience of recruiting and managing new donors
  • Demonstrable and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent networking and influencing skills at the highest level.
  • Able to inspire and motivate support and engagement.
  • Experience of developing and delivering exceptional donor stewardship programmes
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines, plan, prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Understanding of Relevant Data Protection, Gift Aid and VAT legislation
  • Familiar with Institute of Fundraising codes of practice and the regulatory environment.
  • IT literate with ability to use Microsoft office
  • A good level of educational attainment to A level standard or equivalent.
  • Self-starting ability, capable of acting on own initiative and highly motivated to meet personal and team targets and objectives
  • Good IT skills (MS Office)
  • Ability and empathy to work effectively with individuals facing challenges arising from disabilities
  • Good team player with a collegiate approach to sharing experience and information.

Desirable

  • Experience of fundraising in the military sector
  • Experience of working with a fundraising database
  • Professional fundraising qualification
