RE: Co-op Credit Opportunity for ONTARIO GOVERNMENT YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES STRATEGY SUMMER JOBS FOR YOUTH PROGRAM
Please find enclosed general information about a paid summer Cooperative Education opportunity within our Board. This opportunity provides you with the possibility to earn a secondary school cooperative education credit while you are employed in an ONTARIO GOVERNMENT YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES STRATEGY SUMMER JOBS FOR YOUTH PROGRAM (SJFY).
Selection Criteria for Students Who Will Be Accepted Into the Paid Summer Co-op Program:
· Living within designated postal code areas (see attached list)
· At risk of not acquiring the credits needed to graduate;
· 16 – 18 years of as of June 30, 2008;
· Enrolled in school and attending classes to date
· Have not participated in ONTARIO GOVERNMENT YOUTH OPPORTUNITY STRATEGY SUMMER JOBS FOR YOUTH Program in previous years.
Program Details:
· Deadline for receipt of application submissions is April 30, 2008;
· Information Orientation and Individual Interviews will take place during the week of May 20th 2008;
· Pre-placemen/pre-employment training will take place through on-line learning and on July 2rd - 4th 2008 if required;
· Integration will take place on July 18th , 2008;
· Last day of Co-op program is July 29th, 2008.
· Students will receive pay while they attend their July pre-placement and integration sessions;
· Hours at the placement will be determined by the employer but must equal at least 30 hours per week in order to meet the minimum number of hours required to earn a credit;
· Daily attendance is mandatory to earn a credit;
· 3 days of absences will result in automatic removal from the program and therefore loss of credit.

Application Process for the 1 credit Paid Co-op Program
Students will:
· Complete paid summer co-op application form and submit (along with required documentation) to either the Toronto Catholic or Public School Board contact person
· receive telephone call regarding a mandatory Co-op registration/interview session with details of the date, time and place;
· Attend the Co-op registration/interview session.
Students will be accepted into the program based on the selection criteria, their co-op application form and a successful interview with the co-op teacher.
Each application package must include the following:
· A SJFY Application Form
· Two completed Teacher Reference Forms
· A photocopy of the most recent CREDIT COUNSELING SUMMARY
Application packages may be stapled or clipped together.
