A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Lucy Perry Durham.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Lucy Perry Durham, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.
WHEREAS, Lucy Perry Durham was born on October 3, 1923, a native of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and she traversed these earthly bounds on October 15, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Lucy Perry Durham was the loving daughter of the late William A. and Mary Jo Hagan Perry; she was the devoted wife of 55 years to Lloyd W. Durham; she was the loving mother of four daughters, Mary Jo Eagen of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Lucy Durham of Louisville, and Annie Durham and Ellen Durham, both of West Palm Beach, Florida; and she was the loving mother of seven sons, Wes Durham of Corydon, Indiana, Phillip A. Durham of North Palm Beach, Florida, and Stephen P. Durham, Patrick M. Durham, William A. Durham, John D. Durham, and Robert O. Durham, all of Louisville; she was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, and she was the proud great-grandmother of a great-grandchild; and she also leaves behind a loving brother, Benjamin C. Perry of Elkton; and
WHEREAS, Lucy Perry Durham was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, and she was a charter member of River Road Country Club, where she was past champion of the Ladies Nine Hole Group; and
WHEREAS, Lucy Perry Durham was no stranger to politics; she was very proud of her late father, William A. Perry Sr., who was a dedicated member of the Democrat Party, and who served his constituents from Jefferson County with pride and honor; he represented House District 49 during the 1912, 1914, and 1916 sessions of the House of Representatives; he represented Senate District 38 during the 1918 and 1920 sessions of the Senate; he represented Senate District 36 during the 1922, 1924, 1926, and 1928 sessions of the Senate, and he also served as president pro tem during the 1922 and 1924 sessions; and in 1940, he returned to Frankfort as Clerk of the Senate, and he ended his political career as Clerk of the House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, Lucy Perry Durham was a devout member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where her funeral Mass was held on October 18, 2003; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Lucy Perry Durham has left a void that cannot be filled, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Lucy Perry Durham, and extends to her family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Lucy Perry Durham.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Lloyd W. Durham, 4001 Ormond Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40207.
