WBA ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Registration: Online registration begins on September 20 and will close on October 16th. On-Site Registration Friday, Oct. 7th, 6:30-8:30pm at Burnett Jr High School Gym. The league has boys and girls teams divided by grade levels—1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, and 5th/6th grade.(Silver and Gold Divisions) All players should register for their appropriate grade level division. If you anticipate conflicts with evening practices, please make a note on your registration that your player will not be available on those specific nights. Once a player has been drafted to a team, there will not be any changes made because of practice conflicts.
2. Evaluations: All registered players that are NOT reserved on a team, are required to attend an evaluation for their appropriate grade level. These evaluations will help the coaches when they draft their team players. If a player is unable to attend their specific evaluation time, those players will be put into a blind draft to be “pulled out of a hat” by a coach during the draft process. Each team is allowed bring a minimum of 7players and a maximum of 10 players the coach will draft the remaining members of their team. ***Reserved players are not required to attend the evaluations.
3. The Texas Legends Camps: The Texas Legends will host a camp at Burnett Jr High on Friday October 7th from 6:30 -8:30 pm,the cost is $20 at the door!
4. Teams: The coaches will draft their players and will be contacting their players that week with information regarding practice time, location, team name etc. Once a team has been drafted there will not be any trading. Teams usually have 7-10 players depending on the number of teams/coaches in the division.
5. Uniforms/Equipment: Your registration fee includes a reversible team jersey and shorts for each player. Coaches can coordinate the color of socks or other items that will be worn by the team. Undershirts or tank tops are optional and can be worn under the jerseys but the team needs to wear the same color. Players need to provide the following for every practice and game—basketball shoes and basketball in the correct size. The 1st/2nd grade teams use a 27” ball, 3rd/4th grade and 5th/6th grade teams use a 28.5” ball. Gold 5/6 uses 29” ball.
6. Practices: Coaches will begin to call and email their players after the draft to let them know the team on which they will be playing. The coaches will let you know when and where practice will be held. Each team will have ONE weeknight practice per week that is 1 hr. 30 min. in length. They are usually held from 6:00-7:30 pm or 7:30-9:00 pm in one of the Wylie ISD gyms or Basketball Central. Some gyms may not be available until 6:30 pm.
7. Games: All regular season games will be played on Saturday’s between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm at a WISD gym or Basketball Central. There will be 8 regular season games. (NO games or practices during the holidays. All coaches are required to play each player 2 full quarters per game.
8. Pictures: Team picture day will be announced via email and communicated through coaches. You will receive picture packets and a more detailed schedule from your coach. Pictures will be delivered before the end of the season.
9. Post Season Tournament: All teams 1st – 6th grade will be involved in a single elimination tournament. No practices this week! The first and second place teams from each league will receive trophies. For more information, updates and to read the league rules please visit our website at
