- Amy Bettinger explained some of the changes made to the MESA application process that has helped with recruitment and retention in the program.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE WORKSHOPS (AEWS)

CONCERNS
- Yessica shared her proposal for a MESA Retention Specialist in order to increase transfer numbers and to increase diversity in STEM majors
- Staffing of the MESA Center continues to be a concern. The Student Services Assistant is 16 hours per week. Currently MESA is closed on Fridays due to staffing, which the students would like to see changed.
- Yessica asked for all members to review her Student Equity proposal after the meeting and let her know if they have feedback.
- The current MESA room is too small to accommodate more than 25 students at a time. In addition, there is no room for study groups.
OTHER
- Bill Hart shared with members his proposal to get a STEM Center on campus.
- Invitation to MESA’s Holiday Potluck which will bring families and current and former MESA students together to discuss success strategies to help STEM students at VC as they prepare to transfer.
