INSTRUCTOR: TRACY YATES
Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with a variety of fitness activities to improve cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. Activities may include resistance training, running, interval training, abdominal work, plyometrics, stretching exercises, and circuit training. The process of monitoring growth of endurance and strength will be determined via consensus by the class.
Format: Monday thru Friday the student will be required to dress out and participate in the selected fitness activities for the day. MONDAY/WEDNSDAY = CARDIO, TUESDAY/THURSDAY = STRENGTH TRAINING, FRIDAY ADVANCED DISCUSSIONS IN HEALTH/YOGA
Class Expectations:
· You must be dressed appropriately: tennis shoes, socks, shorts, or sweatpants and sweatshirt. PE clothes must be different from what was worn to school.
· A note from parent will suffice for one to two days of inactivity. After two days, a note from a doctor is required to be able to make up missed points.
· No food, drinks, or gum in the gym. WATER IS THE EXCEPTION. Students are encourage to bring a reuseable water bottle.
· All liability (lost or stolen items) lies with the responsibility of the student.
· You will be issued a lock that you will return at the end of the semester.
· We strongly urge all individuals to leave any valuables in their lockers or at home. Ultimately you are responsible for your belongings. Do not bring valuable items to school. Do not leave valuables sitting out in the locker room. Lock Them Up!!!
· All students will dress out and then report to roll call.
· Students are not allowed to leave the class area without the teacher’s permission.
Grading Policy:
○ 80% participation
○20% teacher assessment
5 points per day…grading points will be earned according to the following criteria:
● Cooperation
● Sportsmanship / Team Work
● Leadership/ Initiative
● Ability to follow instructions
● Responsibility
● Knowledge of the rules, strategies, and techniques of various sports and activities
