WOODWIND FAMILY - SAXOPHONE

The Saxophone is a single-reed woodwind instruments ranging from soprano to bass and characterized by a conical metal tube and finger keys.

PERCUSSION FAMILY - TIMPANI

Timpani, or kettledrums, are in the Percussion family. A type of drum, they consist of a skin called a head stretched over a large bowl traditionally made of copper.

Ledger line – middle C

A ledger line is used to notate pitches above or below the lines and spaces of the regular staff. A line slightly longer than the note head is drawn parallel to the staff, above or below, spaced at the same distance as the lines within the staff. This is middle C on the staff.

Glossary

  • Tie - a curved line connecting two notes of the same pitch. Tied notes are held for the length of both notes.
  • Canon– A piece of music where one voice repeats the part of another, throughout the whole piece. It is singing the same song starting at different times.
  • Partner Songs -Two different songs, that have a similar harmonic structure so that they may be sung together.
  • Introduction– The beginning of a piece of music.
  • Ostinato – A repeated rhythmic or melodic pattern.
  • Accompaniment - The art of playing along with an instrumental or vocal soloist or ensemble, in a supporting manner.
