IMPORTANT ORIENTATION MEETING INFORMATION

FOR BEST OF SHOW WINNERS 2016-2017

Congratulations, you have won Best of Show at the Collier Regional Science Fair and are invited to compete on the Collier All Star Team at the Florida State Science Fair!

We will have an orientation meeting on January 30th(Monday) at Pine Ridge Middle Schoolin room 217from

5:00 to 6:00. Please enter the building from the parking lot on the north east (behind to the right) of the building. To participate in the State Science Fair, you and your parent(s)/guardian(s) should attend this meeting.

At this meeting we will:

Turn in all forms as required by the State Science Fair. Forms must be correctly completed, dated, and signed

Turn in permission slip and contact information sheet

Discuss and finalize hotel and chaperone arrangements

Discuss and finalize transportation arrangements

Discuss which category should be selected foreach project for the State Science Fair

Discussways to improve your science project for the State competition - What is allowed and what is not.

Arrange individual times to discuss specific ways to improve your science project for the State competition

Dates of the State Science Fair:March 28, 29, 3031 (Tuesday-Friday)
A summary of the current tentative projected schedule is as follows:
Collier All Star Team members are strongly encouraged to arrange to work and practice with Mr. Anthony before the State Science Fair Trip.
Tuesdayis project set up day. We will meet in the early morning in the parking lot of the AdministrationCenter at 8:30 am. We will then drive up toOrlando. Once at Orlando, I will sign inat the state fair and pick up all of the information packets and passes for our competitors. I will then issue the passes and information packets to the students, after which the students will set up their projects.
Please note: Parents cannot sign their child in. In addition, participants cannot getin to set up a display without their participant’s pass.
The Opening Ceremony isTuesday night from 7:30 am -9:00 pm at the Lakeland Center. We will sit together as a group and will wear our Collier team T-shirts.
Wednesdayis judging at the Lakeland Center. Students enter at 8:30 at judging is from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm. All students must exit by 4:30 pm. The student mixer is then from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pmWednesday night, but the specific arrangements for this are yet to be announced. Projects may be available for public viewing from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm. Project tear down is then after the student mixer from 10:30 pm- 11:30 pm.
Thursdayis thefield trip. Our field trip activity is still to be determined. TheGrand Awards Ceremony is thenThursdayevening from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm at theLakeland Center. We will meet in the hotel lobby at 4:15 pm to go to dinner. We will go directly from dinner to the awards ceremony. We will sit together as a group and will dress in appropriate attire. Students with parents at the Awards Ceremony will be released to their parents after the awards ceremony.
Students not released to parents at the Awards Ceremony will leave earlyFriday morning at 7:00 am and meet back in Naplesat10:00 am at the AdministrationCenter for parent pick up.
Students need to remember to bring the following to the State Science Fair: display board, science project journal/data notebook, formal reports, copies of their abstract, and a nice outfit for the awards ceremony. In addition, students may want to bring some spending money for souvenirs.
