United Way of Forsyth County announces a position for a VISTA Volunteer for an Information and Referral Database Specialist. This is a one-year, full-time volunteer position with a monthly stipend of $1,026 per month. At the end of the one-year period and completion of the project, the VISTA Volunteer will have the opportunity to receive an educational award in the amount of $5,920 (to be used toward student loans or specific educational expenses) or an end of service cash stipend in the amount of $1,800. The primary function of the Information & Referral Database Specialist is to develop and market an
in-depth community resource guide for Health and Human Services in Forsyth County.

Qualifications:

  • Some secondary education is desirable
  • Experience in human services such as non-profit, public administration and/or community research is desirable
  • Knowledge of the scope and activities of public and private health and social service agencies, faith-based organizations and public assistance programs in Forsyth County
  • Experience with data gathering techniques including oral interviews to compile information
  • Strong technical facility with Microsoft Office, databases and other software systems
  • Attention to detail, excellent proofreading skills, results-oriented and self-motivated
  • Access to a car, active driver’s license and car insurance. VISTA Volunteer will be reimbursed at current IRS rate for mileage outside daily commute to and from work

Forsyth County Child Advocacy Center

Enhances and coordinates the investigation of child abuse and neglect by providing managed follow up of child abuse cases, prompt medical and mental health referrals and recorded forensic interviews for children between the ages of 3 and 17 or adults with developmental delays.

Need volunteers to help plan and coordinate fundraisers; a volunteer contractor to assist with remodeling of the facility.

Also need board members, particularly volunteer board members with a legal, child healthcare and/or IT background.

Forsyth County Family Haven -

Mission is to help victims of domestic violence become survivors.

Need volunteers to assist with special projects, events and community outreach, childcare services, lead activities, assist with day to day activities in the shelter including stocking, cleaning and assisting the shelter management team.

Also need volunteers to serve on the board of directors who will participate in monthly board meetings, committee work and fundraising activities. Board members serve a two-year term.

Jesse’s House –

Mission is to provide safe and structured care in a nurturing environment to at-risk girls in order to adequately prepare them for life.

Need volunteers to help with holiday events, meal prep and activities; to teach life skills classes to residents; to mentor girls ages 12-17 and to help organize and clean the shelter.

Lanier Fuller Center for Housing –

Mission to help others help themselves while improving our community through lasting opportunities of restoration and development for quality of life.

Need volunteers to serve on the board of directors, particularly members with a banking, legal, marketing or fundraising background. Would also like to engage the faith-based community.

Literacy Forsyth –

Mission is to provide adult literacy services that educate, build self-sufficiency, and strengthen the community’s economic base.

Need volunteers to serve as ESL instructors and classroom assistants, adult basic education tutors and student advisors

Also need volunteers to serve on the board of directors. Board members serve a two-year term and meet monthly.

Next Generation Focus –

Mission is to equip the next generation of leaders by providing education and financial resources as well as mentoring support.

Need volunteers to serve on board of directors in the areas of fundraising, special projects and program expansion. Board meets quarterly and members are expected to give an average of 1-3 hours to the organization per month.

Sisu, formerly known as Challenged Child & Friends –

Mission is to serve children with disabilities and their typical peers through state-of-the-art educational, therapeutic, nursing, and family support services in an integrated environment.

Need volunteers to assist with special events and classroom activities; as well as volunteers willing to donate their time and talent in the areas of Early Education, Nursing and Therapy

Also need volunteers to serve on board of directors and finance committee, especially those with experience in the areas of accounting, banking or wealth management.

Special Olympics Forsyth –

Mission is to establish year-round sporting and leisure activities for individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who live in Forsyth County and surrounding areas.

Need volunteers to assist with annual fundraisers, Battle of the Bats and Special Olympics Car Wash; to participate as coaches and unified partners for sporting events and to assist with special projects and community outreach.

Also need volunteers to serve on board of directors for a two-year term.
