TIPS:

General

· Employers have just 30 seconds to review your resume!

· Resume and CV (“Curriculum Vitae”) are different, but same. CVs typically if you’ve published or presented in a peer-reviewed fashion (graduate/doctoral level, experienced). CV are used for RDs with many years (at least 5?) years of experience. A “Biosketch” is another form of a CV—typically used for research grants; NIH has it’s own template to follow.

· For the bachelor’s level, entry-level intern grad, keep to 1 page, font size 10-12 point (name can be larger), 0.75 –1.0 inch margins – don’t crowd. Error on the side of underinformation than overinformation!

· For the master’s level/entry-level intern grad, or for career-changer/BS or MS level, keep to 1.5 to 2 pages

· Use months and years for dates, use only past tense (but for current positions, can say “March 2014-current)

· Reverse chronological order when listing education, experiences, other date-oriented items listed

· Like cover letters, expect to have MANY VERSIONS of your resume to fit the job! All in red should be modified according to the job!
