BCCMB Board Appointments

BC Chicken Marketing Board has received appointments from The Province of BC Order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council for the following individuals effective September 30, 2013:

Robin Smith as Chair for a term ending September 30, 2016

Greg Gauthier, reappointed as Board Member for a term ending September 30, 2016

Alistair Johnston as Board Member for a term ending September 30, 2015

Robin Smith has an extensive career in the agriculture, food and seafood industries across Canada and internationally. He recently retired as the Executive Director/CEO of the BC Dairy Foundation and the Milk Producers Association (now merged as the BC Dairy Association). Robin managed the agrifood consulting practice of Price Waterhouse and for fifteen years had his own management consulting firm, Foodwest Resources. Some past positions include: Chairman/CEO of NuFood Pet Inc. and President/CEO of Protein Foods International as well as management positions at Panco Poultry, BC Packers and Star Kist Foods. He spent eleven years in international business with direct involvement in the poultry industry in Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Thailand and South Africa. Robin is a Director of the BC Food Processors Association (seven years) and was President for three. Also, he is a Director of Safari Club International and President of the Fraser Valley Chapter. He has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (food science) from UBC and a Masters in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.

Greg Gauthier was first appointed to the BC Chicken Marketing Board in 2010 after retiring as the CEO of BC Tree Fruits Limited. Before that, he was the Vice President of Sales for McGuinness Distillers/NABISCO Brands in Toronto. Greg has served as Director with a number of organizations including BC Tree Fruits China Ltd, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, and the Canadian Produce Marketing Association. Greg has a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Computer Science, his professional Teaching Certificate from the University of Manitoba, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Chemistry and Statistics from the University of Winnipeg.

Alistair Johnston has an extensive career in the food processing sector, recently retiring from the Vanderpol Food Group as President of Sandel Foods Inc. Some of Alistair’s past leadership positions include operations management at Vitalus Nutrition, Vanderpol’s Eggs Ltd., Dairyworld Foods and Northern Alberta Dairy Pool. In addition to being a Director of both the BC Food Processors Association and the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC, Alistair is an instructor at the university level in the area of operations management.

We send the heartfelt thanks and fond farewells to our departing board members Daphne Stancil as chair and John McComish for their years of service to the chicken industry.
