Role Summary

The Club Journalist will work across the range of Everton platforms to provide engaging, relevant and incisive content to a variety of audiences and stakeholders – including, but not limited to, Everton fans.
This role will require a continuous contribution to the sourcing and production of editorial and interview content for use across the Club’s digital media, broadcast outlets and print publications. The role will involve planning and writing content as well as producing broadcast interviews and packages for social media platforms, evertonTV and the Club’s website.
Working within our team of Club Journalists to ensure our content output supports the key Club objectives - with the aim of driving audience growth – the Club Journalist will support and will be suitably knowledgeable in relation to the means of delivery of content across all platforms, both online and offline.
Reporting in to the Content Manager and playing a key role within our Media and Communications team, the Club Journalist will help to develop our content portfolio to bring the most content to the most people on local, regional, national and international fronts, creating distinctive content/news/information about Everton FC, being fast, fair and accurate in delivering that content,striving always to inform, educate and entertain and to making all Club channels the ‘go to’ choice for our fans, encouraging more people to sign in on Club channels.
The Club Journalist will embrace the latest social media innovations and trends and will maintain a good understanding of new media technologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is attention to detail and a flexible, creative approach.
Knowledge of the Club’s fan base is essential in this role, with proven experience in working in a fast-moving news-gathering environment, along with the ability to encourage and promote the values of Everton Football Club.

Key Responsibilities

  • Constantly contribute to sourcing and producing editorial and interview content for use across the Club’s digital media, print publications, broadcast outlets and social media.
  • Plan and write content and produce broadcast interviews and packages for the Club’s website, evertonTV and social media. platforms, including content for Club events and match day reporting and analysis.
  • Attend Club games and events (on a rota basis) in a reporting role.
  • Help to develop our content portfolio to bring the most content to the most people on local, regional, national and international fronts, creating distinctive content/news/information about Everton FC, being fast, fair and accurate in delivering that content,striving always to inform, educate and entertain and to making all Club channels the ‘go to’ channels for our fans, encouraging more people to sign in on Club channels.
  • Proof read content for online media and publications and edit material for broadcast content.

  • Excellent copy writing and proofing skills
  • Strong interviewing skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines

Knowledge & Experience
Essential / Desirable
  • Knowledge of news gathering and sports journalism, specifically in the football area.
  • Experience of utilising a Content Management System.
  • Experience of managing or maintaining a commercial social media channel.
  • Experience of interviewing.
  • Understanding and experience of utilising social media as a news tool and commercially relevant tool.
