Poultry Digestive System

Materials: Paper, pencil, powerpoint, white board, dry erase markers.

Standards:

State Goal 12: Understand the fundamental concepts, principles and interconnections of the

life, physical and earth/space sciences.

Learning Standard A: Know and apply concepts that explain how living things function, adapt

and change.

Learning Benchmark 5a: Explain changes within cells and organisms in response to stimuli and

changing environmental conditions (e.g., homeostasis, dormancy)

Instructional Objective: After discussing how the digestion system of poultry works, the students will create their own chicken food and diagram how food moves through the digestive system, using the correct organs of the digestive system with 90% accuracy.

Introduction: Goals for the day will be written on the white board (Digestive System.) Students will be asked to name parts of the human digestive system.

Instructional Procedure:

  • After the class has discussed parts of the human digestive system:

  The teacher will handout the worksheet for the students (Poultry Notes).

  The teacher will then start the power point.

o  During the power point students will be asked to list the order in which food passes through the digestion system.

Check for Understanding/Guided Practice: Students will be asked questions pertaining to the digestive system. (Starting at one side of the classroom go around the room and go through the digestive system from start to finish.)

Closure/Summary: After the students have finished watching the movie, the teacher will ask the students the following:

Name the 4 organs in the digestion system?

Name two differences between poultry digestive system and the human digestive system.

As you leave the classroom, tell me one thing you learned today!

Evaluation: Students turn in the Mouth to Manure worksheet and will be evaluated on the correct uses of the organs in poultry digestion with 90% accuracy.
