Using the Access Export Text Wizard for Access 2000 or 2002
1Open the database that contains the data you want to export.
2Click on the appropriate Objects tab, and select the object you require. In this example, we’ve selected a query.

3Select File/Export. The Export dialogue box will open.
- use the Save in list box to select the destination of the file.
- select the required file format from the Save as type list box (ie ‘Text Files (*.txt…)’). The Save as type box lists all import filters that have been installed on your computer. If the filter you require is not displayed, you’ll need to install it from the Microsoft Office CD-ROM.
- enter the file name.

4Click Save.
5The first dialogue box of the Export Text Wizard will be displayed.
6Select the format in which you will export your file: either Delimited (the default) or Fixed Width.
7Click Next.

8In the next dialogue box:
- select the delimiter that will separate the fields
- select Include Field Names if required. Note that files to be used in mail merge documents must show the field names in the first row
- select the Text Qualifier if required.

Note: if you click the Finish button the export will begin and your export settings will be lost. If you need to save these settings as an Export Specification, click on the Advanced button and enter details as prompted in the Export Specification dialogue box. Remember to save the specification and click OK before proceeding to the final Wizard screen.
9Click Next to display the final Wizard dialogue box.
10If required, enter a new export file name or destination, and click Finish.

11Access will export the data in the format you’ve specified and save the file in the location you entered in the final step of the Wizard shown above.
12To check that data has been exported correctly, open the file with the appropriate application and examine its contents.
