ear Parents and Families,

This is my favorite time of the year at preschool. As I look around at the children, so many of them are wearing pants that have turned into high waters! It is a great visual to see the change in how many inches our children have grown this year.

Marvelous March was a busy month! We began the month of March by celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday. We read many of his books. We engaged in various activities that stem from his books. We created patterns, counted apples, and students created their own math equations. Our children discovered his creativity with language. The children were introduced to nutritious foods to help their bodies grow strong and healthy. (NJS2.2.2) Our school nurse, Ms. Maria Harsh provided different fruits and vegetables for the children to sample. Our students created a graph, representing our favorite fruits and vegetables. The children are becoming astutely aware of health and nutrition. Our unit of focus in March was water. The students learned how water helps us, who uses water, who lives in the water, and how we can have fun with water. Our students also obtained information about water conservation.

We will begin Awesome April with a Unit of Study about clothing. Why we wear clothing, how clothes are made and how we take care of our clothing. We also embrace the beginning of Spring. We will discuss the environmental changes we observe as the temperature begins to change. The students will plant their individual seeds and observe the stages of plant growth.

Children will learn to identify and name the parts of a plant.(NJPS:5.1.3)

The Week of The Young Child is April the 24th to 28th. We will post the schedule prior to April 24th. Some of our students will learn their address, and the importance of dialing 911 in case of an emergency. (NJS2.3.4)

It is a privilege and honor to have your child in our class. We thank you from the bottom or our hearts for your continued support. Please see Homework calendar attached.

Parents and Guardians,

Spring is a great time to head outdoors to explore nature, and we can learn a lot

from nature. We can learn about animals, plants, insects, and the earth to name

just a few things. We can also practice science and math skills such as

classifying and counting. Try some of the following activities at home to help

your child learn more about spring. Use the provided questions to spark a

discussion.

Outdoors

  • Take a nature walk with your child. Look, listen, and notice the things

around you. What does the air smell like? Do you see any animals? What

about baby animals? What sounds do you hear?

  • Find books about insects at the library. Look at the pictures with your

child. Do you see any insects that look familiar? Can you and your child

find any of them in your backyard? Do they have spots or stripes? Does

the insect fly or walk? How do you know?

  • Look for flowers in your backyard. Then locate a flower book and look up

what type of flower you found. Can you identify it? How many petals

does it have? How many leaves? Does it smell nice?

  • Lie on a blanket and stare up at the clouds. Do the cloud shapes look like

anything else? Sometimes you can see animal shapes, castles, or your

favorite food.

*Note: Most of the time you will only want to look at the animals, insects,

and flowers. Only touch them if you know they are safe.
