Waste Segregation

Objective

To put into operation a successful system for waste segregation throughout their sites that will ensure that different waste types are not cross contaminated.

Introduction

Cravencroft Ltd will devise and maintain a system which will enable the company to segregate the five primary waste types that are generated on the sites across the county.

These waste types are:

1. General waste

2. Recycling waste

3. Special waste

a.  Oil (This waste type will have its own container)

b. Used Batteries (This waste type will have its own bin)

4. Glass waste

5. Metal waste

The company will designate areas around the site which will act as waste holding areas. The areas will have a selection of skips which are relevant to operations associated with the area.

Procedures

1. The EMS Designated person/Area Manager or his nominee has overall responsibility in ensuring that waste segregation system is monitored and properly maintained.

2. Each waste type will have its own clearly defined skip

3. All waste skips should checked on a weekly basis to ensure proper use of the waste segregation
system

4. All employees will be instructed, detailing the different waste types and skip types and disposal
methods.

5. If any cross contamination of skips is discovered the EMS Designated person/Area Manager must
be contacted immediately if he is unavailable then his nominee must be contacted via the Health
and Safety Officer

6. When any skip is emptied the EMS Designated person/ Manager or his nominee will ensure that a note is retained from the disposal firm this will be held in the Environmental file for a period of two years

7. Areas will be equipped with an emergency spill kit and personnel will be trained in the use of them
