Participating in these Diabetes Education Sessions is an enjoyable, interesting and easy way to gain the skills to eat healthy, get more physical activity and lose weight.

By making changes to your eating habits, there is a much greater chance of:

  • Reducing the risk of complications from diabetes and developing other chronic conditions such as heart disease;
  • Reducing your medications;
  • Increasing mobility, energy levels, self-confidence and happiness;
  • Boosting your immune system.

Programs are run throughout the year from February to December. Participants simply attend as many ofthe one hour sessions they feel they require.

What?

The Healthy Eating for Diabetes Program is a group-based program developed by dietitians running every six weeks throughout the year.

Week 1: General healthy eating for diabetes

Week 2: Carbohydrate Counting

Week 3: Eating from the Gylcaemic Index

Week 4: Understanding food labels

Week 5: What are healthy choices (modifying recipes/ healthy take-away)

Week 6: Realistic weight loss

If you feel as though you need refreshers on specific topics throughout the year you are welcome to return at any time.

What to Bring?

  • Reading glasses, if needed
  • Positive attitude

Cost and Time?

The Healthy Eating for Diabetes Program is cost free. There is no referral or registration required. Thesessions repeat every 6 weeks if you miss a topic you’d like to attend.

Who?

The Healthy Eating for Diabetes Program is for men and women of all ages with diabetes, who want to improve their diabetic control, manage their weight and develop self management skills.

The program is run by trained health professionals who provide specialist advice on nutrition.
