FELLOW TUGGERS!The Finalplans for the9thReunion of the Coast Guard Tug Associationare completed!The majority of the membership present at our 2016 reunion voted in favor of holding our next gathering in Troy/Waterford, NY.Your wish is our command and we hope to bring you another memorable experience.

Dates:Thursday, 6 September – Sunday, 9September 2018

Location:Best Western Franklin Square Inn, Troy, NY

We have booked a block of 30 rooms at the Best Western, 1 Fourth St. in Troy, with ahospitality suite/meeting roomin-house. All rooms include a complimentary hotbreakfast and all rooms are complete with microwaves & refrigerators. The hotel is located within walking distance to the Historic Troyriver front, shops, and restaurants. The nearest airport is in Albany, NY.

The cost of the reserved block of rooms is set at $110.00for Thursday and $149.00 for Friday & Saturday for all rooms, per night, plus tax (first come, first served). Depending on our number of registrations, additional rooms may be added.

Hotel reservations must be individually made at The Best Western Franklin Square Inn by calling 1-518-274-8800 and identifying yourself with the Coast Guard Tug Assocor on-line by using the following link:

Reservations must be made not later than22 August 2018 to ensure confirmation and group rates. After that date, the hotel will offer their best available rate (which may be higher).

As at all previous reunions, attendees will be responsible for making their own individual hotel reservations, travel, banquet cost, and any additional sponsored events (additional admissions to attractions, etc) and personal expenses.

The dinner/meeting will be held Saturday,8 September,from 1830 –2230 at Brown’s Malt Room, 425 River St. in Troy (within short walking distance from hotel).Cost of the banquet/meeting is $35.00 per person.Dinner will be buffet service with a choice of entrees, sides, beverages, and dessert. There will be a cash bar available.Please make dinner payments in advance with your registration(see registration form).

Arrival.Reunion registration at the Best Western hospitality room (located off main lobby);local packages of materials, brochures for the area, “sea stories,” and refreshments. Free time to visit various local attractions and mix with attendees.Check-in time at Best Western Franklin Square Inn is 1500, but may be earlier depending on availability.

Hospitality room open 0900 – 2300.

Friday, 7 September

AM – No special plans; free time to visit local attractions, shop, or just join us in the hospitality suite.

1000 – 1200 Optional Activity: Private showing of “The Finest Hours” the story of the S/S Pendletonrescue by the crew of CG36500, for those who “might” not have seen it yet – Hospitality Suite.

+/- 1700 Tug Boat parade passes Troy enroute Waterford, visible from riverfront behind hotel.Optional: +/- 1730 view tugs arriving at Waterford, partake in music and celebration of Day 1 of Roundup (personal trip to roundup site).

Saturday, 8 September

Throughout the day, the Farmer's Market will be at Erie Canal Lock 2. The mini-tugs will be doing their thing with antics up and down the canal and maybe even pass through the lock! Some of the tugs will be open for walk-throughs and on shore are the vendors, demonstrations, kid's activities, exhibits and more. Line-splicing and knot-tying seminars will be taking place, too. (Private trips to parking lots and shuttles).

The Caldwell Belle will provide boat rides on the Hudson and by the tugs on 45 minute tours (tickets at their boat, down by the "battery").

11:00 - 2030Music continues in front of the visitor'scenter.

12:30Line Tossing, round 1 (at the Battery)

1830 – 2230 Dinner/meeting will be held at Brown’s Malt Room, 425 River St. in Troy (within short walking distance from hotel).

2030 (or dark) Fireworks!! (May also be seen from our hotel and Brown’s!).

Hail & farewell, clean up, and departure.

As at past reunions, uniforms are an option and encouraged for theDinner/Meeting on Saturday. Any active duty, retired, or veteran members are welcome to “break out the old sea bag” and attend in uniform. The Uniform of the Day will be Tropical Blue Long or appropriate prior uniform (whites/khakis). Civilian dress: casual.

We are a non – profit, 501 (c) 3 incorporated veteran’s organization.We need your help to maintain a solid treasury. Your dues and donations help us finance our Association’s business, support our reunions, assist in “up front” financing for future events and memorabilia, and our internet presence;also, towork on the recovery and restoration of Coast Guard tug archivesand, if possible, vessels. Any donations to the “cause” are appreciated and are fully tax deductible!
