Objectives and Motivation
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has brought a new dimension on almost all aspects of healthcare. The use ICT for health (eHealth) is impacting the way care is delivered by providing innovative means to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare services, to augment health maintenance and wellbeing and to support the sustainability of healthcare systems. Although Telemedicine has been the most attractive example of how e-health has changed traditional healthcare provision, the rapid advances in mobile technologies and applications and the use of mobile devices to support health (mHealth) is radically transforming healthcare service delivery around the world.
Within the area of eHealth, a variety of care needs are supported including access, analysis and exchange of patient data, patient empowerment, chronic care and independent living, public health and disease management, as well as education and training for healthcare professionals.
