Up to four Cardozo students may study at Peking University Law School per year.
The School
Peking University (PKU) Law School was officially inaugurated on June 26, 1999. Its precursor was the Law Department of Peking University, which was founded in the year of 1904, and therefore it takes its place as the institution with the longest history of modern legal education in China. It remains in the frontier of Chinese legal education, in terms of recruiting the most talented faculty, breaking the new grounds of research, cultivating outstanding students, and building and rebuilding China's legal system. Offering PhD, Master’s , undergraduate and continuing education programs to more than 3000 students, PKU Law School specializes in legal theory, constitutional and administrative law, economic law and criminal law, and also offers a wide range of courses in international law; litigation; environmental law and others.
Peking University is a comprehensive national university, the first of its kind in China. In addition to the law school, there are schools of business, medicine, journalism, education and engineering in addition to a wide range of studies in the arts, sciences and humanities.
Location
The campus, known as "Yan Yuan" (the garden of Yan), is situated in the Haidian District in the western suburb of Beijing on a large and beautiful campus. It is near the Yuanmingyuan Garden and the Summer Palace. The school is approximately one hour from downtown Beijing (or longer, depending on traffic). The dynamic city of Beijing is the political, intellectual, and cultural capital of China and is a rich vantage point to from which to observe both the rapid development and the ancient heart of China.
Calendar
The Fall Semester begins in mid-September and ends in January; exchange students make arrangements for early examinations, so they can complete their work in December. The spring semester runs from mid-February through mid-July, and there may not be an opportunity for early exams.

Language of Instruction
Courses at PKU are offered mainly in Chinese, with an option for students to select courses in English through the Master of Laws Program in Chinese Law, taught in English.
Courses
Courses at PKU Law School include undergraduate offerings in Chinese in a wide variety of areas, including criminal law, human rights, finance law, environmental law, and administrative law. The LL.M. in Chinese Law offers courses in English in various areas of Chinese law including Civil Law, Company Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law; IP Law; Contract Law; Family Law and others.
Registration

Once approved, students must register during their regularly scheduled registration time for 12 credits of generic study abroad through the Office of the Registrar. Registration must be done in person, via fax to 212.790.0241 or as a pdf attachment to . The fax or pdf must include the student’s name, Student ID number, a request to register for 12 credits of study abroad with the name of the host institution, and the student’s signature.

Evaluation and Grading System
Exam type is determined by the course instructor but the written exam is generally the norm. In some cases, students will not be examined in the same way that Chinese students are evaluated. In lieu of the regular Chinese exams, Law school students may be given the option to write a paper, take an alternative written exam (either in English or in Mandarin) or an oral exam in Mandarin. Students must receive a 70 or better in order have credit transferred to Cardozo.

Transcript
Students must request two copies of their official transcript to be sent to Val Myteberi, Assistant Dean for Graduate and International Programs, 55 Fifth Avenue Room 1007, New York, NY 10003 prior to departure from the program. It is good practice to request a personal copy as well for your records.
Housing
There is a dormitory on campus and a “global village” right outside of campus that students may apply to live in, though space is not guaranteed. Other exchange students have found that living off-campus is more cost-effective.
Health and Safety

Students studying abroad are required to register with International SOS, a24-hour international medical, security and travel assistanceprogram, which provides local expertise, advice on medical and security pre-travel issues, and emergency assistance during critical illness, accident, or civil unrest. It is also a one-stop repository for all of your important information, including passport number, emergency contacts, medical history, and so on. 1. Activate your record: This is registration of your name, passport information, and emergency contacts. You should also include medical history and upload important documents (including a copy of your passport) here.
2. Register your trip: This is where you put details of your travel outside the United States.
Visa
Students will be advised on applying for a student visa after admission to the program.
