Whole School Communications Manager (1.0 fte)

Start date: 1 September 2017 or soon thereafter

As part of the ongoing improvement process, the school is seeking to appoint a Communications Manager that will be a member of the PR, Marketing and Events team of the school. The position focuses on both internal and external communication and being part of a core team that works in collaboration with the other areas of the Administration team and the Academic faculty. The school recognizes the fact that the ever-changing and fast growing nature of communication needs a specific member of staff to oversee this element of school life.

The Communication Manager will report to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) of the ISH in a weekly meeting and also work closely together with the PA’s of the Principals. A background in communications is essential. The person will lead the Communication Department at the school that will include at the moment an Events coordinator and Communication Officer. We are seeking a team player that will join the school at exciting times in its history. It is required that candidates are bilingual in both English and Dutch due to the structure of the school.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the lead point for the Communications department and hold regular meetings with the team with regards all events at the school.
  • Assist in the strategic planning of communications at ISH with regards the overall mission and philosophy of the school.
  • Develop and promote clear external communication channels and strategies to ensure the corrective narrative is represented in the communication to all stakeholders.
  • Lead and Chair the meetings off the established ISH Communications Teamin improving all internal communication of the school so that there is standardization, clarity and consistency.
  • Ensure that there is a clear internal ‘workflow’ and collation of communication information in place that it is regularly modified and updated so as to meet the needs of the school.
  • Where appropriate liaise with media and handle the requests accordingly.
  • In conjunction with PR, Marketing and Events, oversee in the organizing the planning and implementation of events for the school.
  • Oversee all the different channels of communication at the school and ensure that they are being used appropriately.
  • The expectation to bring innovative and new ideas and challenges to improving communication at ISH.

Desired Competencies:

  • Knowledge of current communication tools and how to implement this in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of Social Media and understanding how to use this in relation to privacy and policy regulations.
  • Ability to use initiative in making decisions and taking actions.
  • Being an active, clear and respectful line-manager to the members of the Communication department.
  • Understanding the role, organisation and procedures of an educational institution;
  • Excellent interpersonalandorganisational skills;
  • Respectful and highly developed communication skills towards other staff members
  • Ability to be extremely flexible and adaptable when changes occur and be stress resistant;
  • Proficiency in balancing interests and priorities;

Working hours:

  • 1.0 Fte
  • 40 hours per week (excluding lunch break)
  • Working hours: 8:00 AM – 16:30 PM
  • Holidays may not be taken during school term time
  • flexibility in the working hours in relation to evening and weekend events at the school is desirable.

We offer

A temporary appointment for a year, with a view to a permanent contract if all the conditions are met. The position is based on the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Secondary Education. Scaling: OOP staff, Scale 8. The exact step depends on the relevant background and experience.(CAO VO).
