University College Falmouth
University College Falmouth has been granted full university status in a move that will further our ambition to become one of the top five specialist arts universities in the world.
The Privy Council approved our establishment as Falmouth University following a rigorous appraisal process, making us Cornwall's first university.
Having started life in 1902 as a small art school, today Falmouth is renowned as a multi-arts university in a global market, offering courses in art, design, media, performance and writing. Over the past ten years, student numbers have tripled to more than 4,000 and we have benefitted from more than £100 million of investment in world-class facilities at our two campuses in Falmouth and nearby Penryn.
We have an excellent track record for helping our graduates find great jobs. Our courses are developed in conjunction with the creative industries, and focus on giving students the skills they need to find exciting and interesting work after they graduate. Many of them go on to have highly successful careers in the flourishing creative industries sector, with artist Tacita Dean, sculptor Tim Shaw and BBC broadcaster Hugh Pym among our alumni.
We were the highest ranked University College outside London in the Guardian Good University Guide 2012, and were in the top ten in the UK for Art & Design according to the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2012
University of Gloucestershire
Promising brighter futures from a proud past, the University of Gloucestershire has been delivering education for nearly 200 years.
Today the University boasts three thriving campuses in Gloucestershire, two in Cheltenham and one in Gloucester.
Our students enjoy a host of new facilities including a new Media School, a refurbished Students’ Union, comprehensive IT support and extensive library services.
Over the last five years the University has significantly increased its overall student satisfaction score in the National Student Survey (NSS). Our innovative teaching and support methods give our students the confidence and communications skills to thrive in the graduate employment market and we score higher than the sector average for ‘personal development’.
Building on our hugely successful two year Law degree, we now offer an expanded range of fast-track degrees, allowing students to complete their studies in two years, rather than three (or three years, if the course offers a work placement year). Subject options range from Biology, to Business, Sports and Tourism. Subject to validation, we also have a new suite of undergraduate courses for 2014 entry, including Economics, Animation, Product Design, Drama, and Fashion Design.
From residential summer events on-site to running activities in schools, the Outreach team is constantly striving to inspire students to enter higher education and forging new links with education providers around the county and beyond. We also offer activities for pre-16 students to raise awareness and aspirations to join higher education. Our next open days are on 5th and 22nd June 2013.
