·  How to study dentistry? Some tips on methodology of studying

·  Hippocratic Oath. Codes od medical ethics and their relevance. Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Declaration of Helsinki. Medical courts.

·  Propedutics of Dentistry in relation to other subjects in the Dentistry syllabus

·  Professional prestige of dentists and professional responsibilities

·  Dentists’ duties towards acknowledging of patients’ dignity and rights

·  Ethical aspects of dentist-patient relationship; the role of empathetic approach in the relationship mentioned

·  Health in relation to illness; illness in relation to health

·  Illness and the suffering of a persons

·  A DMD’s place in and approach to medical sciences

·  The importance of history of medicine in the professional training of a dentistry student

·  How to use scientific sources? Scientific paper; scientific book; notes and references in scientific publications.

·  Protection of intellectual property, authorship and copyright – basic rules

·  Corruption in healthcare. Medical and pharmaceutical industry

·  Mobbing in healthcare facilities

·  Ethical and legal dilemmas in modern dentistry

REGULATIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT:

1.  Propedeutics of Dentistry is an elective subject for students of the 2th Year, Faculty of Medicine. For students who choose Propedeutics iin Dentistry, the subject becomes obligatory. It consists of 25 hours of seminars, takes place in the summer semester and ends with a credit.

2.  The lectures are held at the Department of History of Medicine and Medical Ethics, Rybacka 1, room 306. Participation in all meetings is obligatory.

3.  Detailed list of topics and the timetable are displayed on the board at the Department of History of Medicine and Medical Ethics.

4.  All meetings start on time – this rule applies to both teachers and students. Students, who are late will not be allowed to enter the room. Students are requested to leave their outer clothes (eg. coats etc.) in the cloakroom (ground floor).

5.  Three not-excused and not made up absences will result in not getting a credit.

6.  The Head of the Dept. may give up point 5. in well documented adverse cases.

7.  In case of an excused absence, student can get a credit, but is obliged to make up for the lecture missed by reporting on the topic missed to the teacher in charge, within two weeks, but before the day of final meeting.

8.  Credit will be granted to students who attend all the lectures and pass the final written test during the last meeting.

10.  According to the Instruction No 71/2012 and 72/2012, please note that it is forbidden to have mobile phones or any other electronic equipment that allow communication during examinations and credits.
