MEETING MINUTES

MAHWAH RECREATION COMMITTEE

Co-Chair Andrea Dalessio called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

Roll call was taken and members in attendance were:Andrea Dalessio, Deb Burns,George Ervin, Heather Federico, Nic Giancaspro, Tony Lore andGloria Lore. Also in attendance was Rec Director Dawn DaPuzzo, students from the High School, and prospective new member Wallace Dennison.

The flag salute was followed by the Sunshine Law announcement. On a motion by Gloria Loresecondedby George Ervin, the meeting minutes of March 23, 2016 were approved. All in favor, motion approved.

Old Business

Men’s Basketball: no report

Volleyball: Heather is taking over as Volleyball Chair. The volleyball net is not the right kind. Will order for next year, but Heather will first ask the school for new nets. Need new volleyballs, will order for next September.

Spring Bocce: Starts Sunday May 1. Nic spoke with Brandywine but hasn’t heard back. Hopefully they will come. The courts need cleaning out.

Soccer: In-person registration is May 26. Nic will send out emails. Hasn’t received confirmation from the High School yet. Will have 2 groups again this year. Asked about getting re-fillable water bottles but no money in budget for them. Ok if they are provided by sponsor.

Men’s & Women’s Softball – emails went out. In-person registrations are May 5 and May 25. Emails & forms were sent to last year’s players.

Tennis: Will be on Mondays & Wednesdays, June 20-August 1. In-person registration on May 5, May 19 and May 25. The emails and registration forms have been sent out.

Town-wide Adult Co-Ed Softball Tournament – has been tabled until next year.

Town-Wide Garage Sale: Saturday, May 14 from 9:00-3:00. The HS Senior class will be selling hotdogs, snacks & beverages. Andrea will lend the hotdog cart. They will also sell tickets to the Shannon Rose fundraiser. Danielle is keeping the list of both home and town hall sellers.When complete, Danielle will email the sellers the instructions and parking passes. She will post the flyer in Mahwah Moms, and will put up more signs around town. Joanne will put the garage sale ad in The Record. Port-o-Johns are arriving Friday. Everyone should arrive before 7:30 to let the sellers in. The entrances will be blocked off Friday night by the DPW. Helping out in the morning are: Gloria, Tony, George, Chris, Danielle, Dawn, Dave, Wallace. Will email to confirm help for the day.

Fishing Contest: Saturday, May 28 at 10:00 am. Dawn ordered the fish, aerator and worms. The DPW will cut back the bushes around the pond. There will be 3 prizes for each group, 12 total. 10 door prizes. Dawn will get snacks & water. Will send an email to confirm who can help out.

New Business

Proposed Golf & Tennis Leagues: Tabled until next meeting.

Other Upcoming 2016 Calendar dates:

Paddle Day: Thursday, July 7, 5:30-7:30. Rain date is July 14.

Senior Picnic: Tuesday, July 12 at 12:00. Rain date is July 19.

Movie Night: Is booked for Tuesday, July 26 (r/d July 27)

Recreation Director’s Report

Tennis & Basketball courtresurfacing should start this week.

Mahwah Day’s mechanical bull – Dawn is trying to get a bull in better shape, or possibly another option.

Dawn explained the committee to prospective member, Wallace Dennison.

General Comments

None.

On a motion by Deb Burns, seconded by Nic Giancaspro, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20p.m. All in favor, motion carried.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 7:30 pm.
